Upgrade path for Sony Xperia 10 Plus Dual SIM to Sailfish OS 4.1

Hi,

Is it still the case that you have to first have only Android 9 on your device before upgrading to SF OS? I notice that in the latest release 4.1.0 is now on level of Android 10 (API level 29).

So when upgrading to SF are we still using the following software binaries:

Software binaries for AOSP Pie (Android 9.0) – Kernel 4.9 – Ganges (latest)

or can we now start to use the Android 10 instead:

Software binaries for AOSP Android 10.0 – Kernel 4.14 – Ganges (latest)

I also checked the instructions on jolla.com website and that still points to downloading the Android 9 software binaries.

Also is the upgrade path still from Android > 3.4.0.24 > 4.01 > 4.1.0 or can you install 4.01 now with Android 9 Software binaries?

I can’t answer your question, but what i can tell you is that the Android Runtime has nothing to do with (okay, is not closely related to) what version you use as a base for building or installing Sailfish OS.

People keep assuming this, so better keep spreading the information.

If you feel brave and want to reflash your phone, of course you can try… but if you want it to work and just get it done, trust the docs.

Why would you need to do stepwise upgrades with SFOS if you start from Android? Just grab the latest version and flash it.
