Unreliable bluetooth connection with car for streaming music. [5.0.0.62]

REPRODUCIBILITY: 100%
OS VERSION: 5.0.0.62
HARDWARE: Xperia 10 II
UI LANGUAGE: german
REGRESSION: no

DESCRIPTION:

pairing works fine and the reconnecting also works in terms of the device is connected and that is all… The connection is unreliable because phoneconnection is not working although the device is shown as connected. switching BT on/off does the trick for the phone side, but the Music streaming is serious messed up.

  1. it only works with the jolla media app which is ultra basic and uncomfortable. And you need a fresh restarted phone for a working connection, then you have the chance that the media (in my case Music tracks) gets recognised by the car and gets played as it should be. the only thing that is not working is the timebar of the song where you see how mutch time is left.
  2. the better alternative QuasarMX (also native) i only got once connected correctly.
  3. often when you just get into the car and try to play music from BT the music gets played for about 5-10 secons and the there is silence. after switching to radio and the back to BT media it again plays only 5-10 sec. and the media is not displayed on the display. the play button is greyed out and no track name etc. is shown.

By the way the car is an Opel Astra L (2024)

sometimes it works perfect and sometimes its a mess and nothing is working. where ist that unreliability coming from?

PRECONDITIONS:

mp3 Music on the phone, a native media app and a car with bt radio.

Hello, not a solution but rather a workaround, but it might help you

You have to start the music first, and then connect to the car, and this will 100% works, except for browser and webview, for which there’s no way to get it work

Keep in mind that it only works per single app, so if you are on media player and want to switch to microtube or bandcamp, it’s close the media player > disconnect > let eg bandcamp play > reconnect with music already on

Very inconvenient but it works

I really hope they will fix the flaky bluetooth one day

I have the same problem withmy Jolla C2. Well it’s actually worse. It never worked even once.
Connecting and pairing goes fast but music never gets played. I also realized that the cars want to play the music through the phone…so it recognizes the phone as speaker not as an input device.
I have tested it with factory radio based on android 4.4, Tesla 3 system, aftermarket radio based on android 8 and aftermarket radio based on android 14… Never did the music play through the car, not even once.

Seems like the phone tells the wrong protocols to the bluetooth connection
