Unable to get NFC working in JP2

REPRODUCIBILITY: Always
OS VERSION: 5.2.0.17
HARDWARE: Jolla Phone 2026
UI LANGUAGE: English (UK)
REGRESSION: No - it never worked on this phone since day 1

DESCRIPTION:

No NFC tags are recognized by the phone despite NFC being turned on.
When placing a NFC tag near the phone, phone does not vibrate and NFC Log app does not show anything happening at all.
The same tags are readable from other devices with no issues at all.

PRECONDITIONS:

No known preconditions to report. I have tried multiple things but the outcome is always the same.

  1. tried disabling appsupport
  2. tried multiple combinations of wifi/mobile data/bt/gps on and off
  3. tried to reboot the phone with NFC enabled
  4. tried to reboot the phone with NFC disabled and enabling it afterwards
  5. tried all the above with and without TPU case (shouldn’t interfere but was easy to try)

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Enable NFC

  2. Put NFC tag on phone back cover

EXPECTED RESULT:

NFC tag should be read correctly and phone should vibrate

ACTUAL RESULT:

No vibration and no NFC tag being recognised

Nothing good I guess :smiling_face_with_tear: (NFC is enabled on phone btw)

Check if one of these package is installed:
nfcd
nfcd-binder-plugin
libgbinder

Just checked, and NFC seems to work on my Jolla Phone. If the packages @pherjung asked for are installed, I think this sounds like a hardware problem.

All 3 packages were installed but I ended up wiping the phone due to other issues I was seeing and now everything seems to be working fine
