UK - C2 Community Owners

Hi All, just thought it may be a good idea to have a thread for those in the UK to report and exchange info on how things are going with their devices.

For context:

I’m planning to run my C2 with an O2 SIM card, I have also access to an ID Mobile SIM. So I can report how network coverage and connection behaves.

I’m also planning to install a few British apps with th android support layer, such as the NHS and some banks (Lloyds and Santander).

For now I haven’t received my device (a week in transport), so I can’t comment on the import tax but I’ve seen others have paid.

Feel free to tell me if you don’t see value on the topic I just want to get a feeling for “local” use case rather than everywhere else.

Well mine bricked itself on boot and is just a spinning circle on screen now :joy:
Will try some things if it ever gets fixed

Customs charge was nearly £65 though so be prepared for that

Oh dear, let us know how it gets on. Hope you can bring it back to life, is not looking too good at the moment reading the overall feedback.

Oh mate gutted, I am sorry to hear that. Luckily for me it all seemed to go fairly smoothly. First impression is that the phone is decent, Sailfish looks great on it. Boy does it have some heft to it, but I’ve always liked a heavy-ish phone since the Lumia.

Honestly it needs some work. Some occasional bugs, weird stuff like ‘people’ totally crashing. Performance is a mixed bag too.

I was watching some Reeder videos and volume up + power seems to be their recovery combination.

In most of the videos it seemed like the buttons needed to be pressed together for a really long time, longer than I’ve ever seen other brands. Maybe you can try and see if it does anything?

Unfortunately it appears they didn’t include the recovery image on the devices for some absolutely stupid reason, it was the first thing I tried when it bricked.

I’m probably going to have to send it back, gonna cost me a fortune

If I were you I’d probably just hold on a couple weeks, there’s no way the only solution is sending it all over to Finland! (Or even worse expecting the customer to fry there themselves).

Mine is currently in transport and I’m considering holding setting it up until there’s at least two more updates.

If you do that, make sure you still keep it charged up.
Looks like at least some problems come from the power dying during first boot.

Got mine set up but not without hiccups along the way. Having read other experiences I made sure that I had USB mouse, Windows USB keyboard and USB C/USB A OTG adapter available. Arrived 50% charge so left it a couple of hours before booting (without O2 SIM) no problem setting language and entering encryption 5 digit passcode x 2, but when wanting to set up WLAN (maybe me being stupid as not seen any other posts about it) there was no keyboard on screen. At this point used USB keyboard with OTB adapter to enter WLAN password.Tried three times to establish connection but just spinning around but the moment I tapped upon "Advanced settings* it suddenly connected. I proceeded to enter Jolla account details and updated firmware to 5.0.0.21 and then noticed keyboard now available. I did not want to try rebooting phone voluntarily until this point reached.

Put in O2 PAYG SIM today but only sent and received texts so far to Tesco (O2-MVNO) and “service message” showing balance works. I would say that SIM SDcard holder is quite fragile and wouldn’t be surprised to hear of it jamming.

Remember to follow Posti.fi tracking until it is handed over probably to ParcelForce and follow tracking on https://www.parcelforce.com/track-trace using existing Posts.fi tracking number. One it reaches local depot (stage 4) you can call 03448004466 to obtain the 17 digit authorisation code to save waiting for letter in post:

Yeah I’m thinking that now, I don’t see why there can’t be flashable images from home unless there are some tool or licensing issues.

I would hold on if I was you, or make sure its fully charged before you boot it, mine booted itself once it hit 3% which I don’t think helped at all

Eh, this ruined it for me, Posti said it was released from customs and I was hopeful I dodged custom fees; checking with Parcelforce status is:
Your parcel is being held in our delivery depot awaiting payment of customs charges. The addressee is being sent a letter outlining the charges and how to pay.

Oh well. Thanks for the hint though to check with parcelforce

£64.55 consisting of 12£ “clearance fee” and the rest is VAT.

I’m waiting for the letter. I just seriously hope I don’t get a brick and have to deal with the whole return back… it may be the end of the road for me and the C2 if I can’t make it work.

Also, does it make sense to check where we are all based? In case we need to return we may as well return in bulk.

I’m based in Cheshire East.

maybe a support day somewhere in UK would be better as it will simplify logistics?

I followed the advice above, called Parcelforce, gave them the tracking number and got the 17 digit customs code to pay. As it always happens with shippings, I am not at home currently so I had to reschedule/delay the delivery so I really hope the phone was turned off otherwise the battery will be depleted by the time I get my hands on it.

That’s what I’m thinking… if we could get a few of us together for a geek day away

I got mine just over a week ago and as I was about to be on holiday for over a week when I received the notification that it had been released from customs and was available at the local depot, I called to confirm that I will be able to collect at the same time as pay the VAT+fee… I then picked it up on the way to my holidays… Got fortunate that I didn’t have the spinning wheel issue. Works as expected for me (including the expected non-functional call functionality as SMARTY/Three have basically turned off 3g…).

If there’s a get together somewhere reasonably close to Oxford (few hours drive…) I’m all up for meeting up

Guys, I think this is not for me, I realised very quicky how much I rely on things that need Google services, even my robot vacuum, heating controller and security cameras require Google play services for the apps to work.

Therefore. If anyone is interested on getting a c2 already imported to the UK and save yourself the customs duty I’m willing to send it to a better home, I will include the screen protector and cover for free to sweeten the deal. Just the cost of the phone alone is all I want.

Yes it’s a quick give up but I rather pass it to someone who will have the knowledge and patience to work with it. I just don’t have the time for it.
