Recently at work I started a new contract and had to prove my ID.
In the past that would mean showing a photo of my passport that I had cropped down nicely in GIMP by email.
These days I had a link to verify my ID via a web based service called TrustID, basically they make you pull weird faces into your phone camera and photo your passport directly.
I think TrustID is kinda cool cos’ it can be done via a web browser, which should mean that we don’t have to muck about with Android apps.
TBH I never got it to work - and a quick Google suggests it’s not only Sailfish users that are struggling. I tried several times and it refused to verify me.
I thought instead of stressing out I would ask if there is another way.
Rather than ask nicely if I they can help me I rephrased my request for help in a much more direct but polite tone:
Hi,
I can confirm that I took an actual image of my passport, clearly TrustID isn’t working.
I saw on your website that your based in ***, I’m working in *** which isn’t far, when is best for me to come in with my passport so you can verify me and my ID manually?Nicholas
With that I got a reply back and after a 5min Teams call it was all sorted.
I’m not sure if TrustID has issues with Sailfish, but a lot of these sloppy services are a bit unpleasant, and it’s always worth asking if the company has another process, or if you can engage with them differently.
