The VerdandiTeam Thread

Hello, instead of making milion “do you guys want x” threads I thought I’ll consolidate it all into single tread about VerdandiTeam with like news, updates, and planned ports.

For brief history and explanation of what is Verdanditeam go to here or the website.

TLDR: VerdandiTeam is group of people that makes quality ports with promise of updates for long time. Goal is to provide better quality service than Jolla themselves.

Now who is part of this team?

Mostly me, but you already know that. Beside me there’s k31j0 who does not have acc here and wasn’t doing any porting since moto x play, but you’ll find her mentioned in verdanditeam updater. And recently I convinced @Sharks to join. Also high possibility @Morc will join with g84.

The rooster

You can check all currently supported phones on the website but I’m making this section to help people pick device if they’re picking from verdanditeam devices. This just general explanation/guide, please go to respective threads about info about devices before buying.

The oldie - Moto G2

The longest supported port EVER. We’re past 11 years of support.

And you might ask “why would anyone buy 2014 device” ITS CHEAP. Fully working and incredibly CHEAP. If you want to dip your toesies in sfos without too much commitment, buy g2. And yes it is daily driveable and that is not a joke.

The mainline - Oneplus 6

While it has been superseded by other ports, oneplus 6 is still great port, works well, you might have issues with volte, but it also has the best mainline currently on the market and i plan on making mainline sfos port for it, and might be cheap in your area.

The tablet - Pad 6 (pipa)

Community lacked good tablet port, this is the answer. Fully working, including stylus, long battery life, generally wonderful device if you get past the horrors of unlocking bootloader. If you want tablet, go for it (just watch out for the caveats).

The Snapdragon 695 5G family - Edge 30 Neo, 10 IV, 10 V, G84

So, we got quite fine selection and all of them run exact same SoC xd. So let’s break it down.

Motorola Edge 30 neo

Port made by me, fully working except fingerprint (blame jolla), quite nice camera quite nice battery life everything is quite nice, it’s also fairly compact. Currently it is at the top of the rooster. In Poland it’s INCREDIBLY cheap (like 70€) in other areas it can be as much as 200€, thats why we want to have options.

Motorola G84

This one is not yet ported as @Morc didn’t port it yet but if he does end up porting it which should be easy because it’s basically copy paste of miami (edge 30 neo) it will be bit bigger than miami, but with 3.5mm and sdcard.

Xperia 10 IV/V

Also same soc, this time from Sony, so they both have sdcard and 3.5mm and happen to be even more compact than miami, at the cost of lacking 120Hz and some other minor differences.

We have such a nice selection and so fine-grained that I’m sure you’ll find something to your likings

The benefits

“Kay magister, sure, but what do I get?” - well, dear user, with G2 as example we have proven track record of supporting devices for looong time. So if you wanted to pick unofficial device but were afraid its not gonna get updates, rest easy.

Speaking of updates we have in-house made updater. On other ports you have to update by hand, Here it’s just one click in the gui.

Branding - we’re trying to make it non-intrusive but also adding branding is so much fun  Currently on all motorolas you’ll get nice bootlogo with sailfishos and powered by verdanditeam, dare I say better looking than Jolla’s. There are also preinstalled storeman and chum so you don’t have to do that, as well as 5 of my essential apps on my ports (hey, they are my ports, I advertise my own apps :D). @Sharks commited to work on instead of preinstalling them, adding option to the startupwizard which sure is better solution.

The future

Now we’re sporting collectively 7 ports (9 devices), there isn’t much more left to port to be honest, we have quite nice selection with the Snapdragon 695 5G SoC and like, you don’t need anything better than that for sfos, so we’ll simply have to wait for interesting devices to show up later.

I’m thinking of making mainline based ports on op6(t) beside the downstream based ones. @Sharks contemplates doing feature phone, we’ll see what the future holds, but currently there’s nothing worth porting.

That’s it, thanks for reading, you can post in reply your experiences with verdanditeam ports or like suggestions/thoughts/whatever. We’ll be posting news about new devices or new features(branding)

Well part of having fully working device is having good device to work on (look at jolla) so I can’t just pick any random device and boom it will be great port

We understand that of course… it more about making people aware if they are interested, they can reach out to them since providing financial incentives..

I really do like the op6 port and it’s absolutely daily driveable. Would be even better if ‘next esr browser 153’ would be working well. Opens up, but flickers and display gets black every once in a while.

Daily user of the Xiaomi Pad 6. Couldn’t be happier. Sailfish device with a keyboard (and pen).
Noticed a few issues (full freeze) over the past weeks, but that may be due to my own tinkering. Will do a reflash in the near future to figure that out.
Saves me from taking my laptop with me >80% of the time.

When we get moonlight app ported there’s high chance we’ll be able to send the stylus events through it, then you’ll be able to use pipa as drawing tablet for desktop applications running on the computer

That’s app’s issue not op6

Some news:

@Morc got around to porting G84 and it’s already in fine stage, he’ll also be adding his Oneplus 7T pro port to verdanditeam ports

With those two ports VerdandiTeam will have the same number of ports as Jolla (without counting jp26)

I’ve also been working on mainline port on x2 and it’s now running 7.3 rc7 kernel which is newer than my desktop lmao

I’ll also probably soon start making mainline based ports for op6 and t. While on x2 mainline port will replace hybris port, on op6 i plan to run them in parallel, support both hybris and mainline.
