Tech Stack Recommendation for Jolla Phone and Mind2

Hi everyone, new member here.

I have been watching the Jolla phone for a while now and recently made the decision to make the downpayment for the phone.

It’s part of my general mission to move away from being used by Apple, Gmail, Cloud LLMs, etc. to being a user of more ethical tech that is innovative, and not related to big tech that invests in non-ethical extra-technical practices, with a focus on privacy and customisability.

I’m not a developer, but I’m comfortable with light levels of code and configuration so I’m not worried about there being bugs or issues in the first instances.

I’m also interested in local LLMs and have been interested in Mind2 for that reason.

I’m not expecting to do anything super high-computational (with e.g. image or video), just text-based with a focus on automation and making life smoother with smart automatic AI-assisted configurations.

While I’ve been researching more about Sailfish, I understand about apps being used with Android App Support for all apps that Sailfish doesn’t natively support.

I have a question about recommendations for the following:

  • Email/Calendar
    • I planned on using Tutanota but noticed that Tutanota can’t be linked up to Sailfish’s native email system. This is fine for the Jolla phone, where I could use AAS for my Tutanota emails, but if I wanted to make use of Mind2’s automatic email and calendar assistance, then I would probably only be able to do this via email forwarding, which kind of negates the need for Tutanota.
    • Does anyone have any recommendations for privacy-focused, ethical tech for emails/calendars that would work well with Sailfish OS?
  • AI
    • Does anyone have any recommendations for local LLMs and cloud-based LLMs to use on the Mind2?
      • I’ve come across Liquid AI as a model that I was thinking to use as the local model but I saw that recent developments in Mind2 plan to have some cloud-based AI usage as well for certain tasks.
      • I’d like to avoid big tech or censored tech as much as possible.
  • Mind2
    • For the Mind2 I’m planning on these kinds of workflows:
      • Automatic email sorting for multiple email inboxes to manage my personal life and business in email reply drafts and calendar configurations.
      • Automatic research on topics to build research documentation.
      • Am I correct in imagining this is possible?

I can feel the passion of this community and I am keen to be involved in this OS and Jolla hardware gaining traction.

I’d think of Infomaniak.com but I saw some others here on the forum.

Infomaniak is good, also Proton (but integration doesn’t work for free accounts)

I’m still trying to wrap my head around “ethical tech”, but maybe a self-hosted CalDAV/CardDAV server running e.g. Radicale would help?

I use mailbox.org. There is one issue where the “favourite” mark on contacts gets lost somewhere in the sync, but otherwise it seems to work very well.

I second mailbox. They are using standard protocols, support own domain, not exspensive and have been very reliable for me.
