Sony Nagara (Xperia 1IV and 5IV) port

Thanx for this tip. Xperia Companion says it is as well a fu**ing SOG09.
Brilliant.

For me that’s it. I’m finished with Sony. I stay at the Volla Quintus and hope that @piggz is able to make my cameras work in some nearer future. I’m not willing to Support Sony with this rubbish, when they are not able to decide that a model is flashable or not. I’m not willing to buy any Sony phone anymore. I know, that the sellers are the culprits, because they cheat. But Sony could easily avoid this nonsense by making all variants of a model flashable or not.

If piggz is not able to enable the missing camera support, I will have to wait for the next gen Jolla device or go into the direction of a Fairphone. Mal seems to make good progress with version 6.

I guess if your problem is finding the ā€œflashableā€ model, then you could ask the seller to check if it’s unlockable or not? (I guess you know how)

It should be easier that way and save you a lot of hassle.

wth Sony has to do with you buying a used phone from a not-so-honest seller?

Sony is making this cheating easily possible. Why the hell are they selling model variants where the bootloader is not unlockable. If they would simply decide, we make this or that model open to reflash. It wouldn’t be such a gamble to get the device you want. As already written I know who are the real culprits. Anyway I don’t understand and support Sony’s politics, regarding the ability to unlock a device.

sweet summer child

operator subsidized phones were locked from the beginning of times (I’ve had T-Mobile branded SonyEricsson T610), that’s why they’re cheaper.

PS Also do you remember the first iPhone? Yeah, that one, at&t one, with cost of $200.

I understand this frustatiion, given that Sony has this open device program:
Devices with unlockable bootloader can be easily separated from carrier or otherwise modified device by a different reference number or other device identification tags.
This is an idiosyncrasy on the manufacturer site in addition to the seller who do not care about this minority topic

At first, these were no branded nor operator subsidized phones.

Second, are you really trying me to tell, because it was like that from the beginning of times it is good?
Well, then why should I use Sailfish. It was since the beginning that Google is collecting data and is flooding you with advertisement to monetize Android. And it is since the beginning that Apple is trying to lock you in a golden cage.
Sorry, I’m not convinced,

I got a tip for a trustworthy seller via PM. So I decided to give it a last try and ordered from that one. I will report.

SOG09 is an operator (au/Okinawa Cellular)

@Fellfrosch, while I understand the frustration, this case sounds pretty much as a fraud on the side of the seller, not manufacturer.

For one reason or another, Sony sells different models for different markets. However, there are clear instructions on which models have bootloader unlockable. You, on the face value, ordered a model that was expected to be unlockable.

The fact that the seller managed to go around some restrictions from Sony and flashed EU software on Japanese variant and sold it to you as EU variant is a fraud. It is clear that someone in the chain knows what is going on and tries to profit through it. Please report the case to ebay or whatever channel did you use to get the phone and consider escalating case to police.

I did not realize in first reading, this is criminal energy from the seller, unimaginable business case, at least somewhat creative

Well the first one wasn’t really criminal or at least he can say he has just sent out the wrong phone.
The second phone was flashed with the European firmware. It was in an original box sealed with Sony seals. I think @rinigus is right. This is crime and I should think about informing the police.

There was something strange the other day. Needed to use the flashlight to read something and its brightness was very low. After several seconds (maybe 20), it just stopped and when I tried to restart home to try and fix it, the whole thing froze and had to restart the phone. Shutting down during the restart took more than expected, maybe a minute, but finally it restarted.

Signed up specifically for this thread - thanks @rinigus, @vlagged for this test release and @ bundyo for early testing (cannot mention all since i am a new user).

Wanted to try SFOS for a while now and xperia 1/5 mk 4 seems like a good price / performance ratio atm, going to order one now.
I’ve been wondering if it’s possible to enable 120hz somehow or are we always forced to 60hz? And if there are any plans on ever running 120hz in SFOS in general?

Device Nr. 3 is here. Guess what it’s a XQ-CQ54 (it’s even printed in very small letters on the backside). Bootloader is unlockable. Not done yet, first have to make all updates and test the device for some time.

Special Thanx to @rschrod who gave me the tip for the trustworthy seller.
Otherwise I would have given up.

I haven’t looked into it. I am not sure where did I hear it, but sounded like SFOS will have problems at 120Hz with animations becoming faster. It is possible that 120Hz can be enabled. But I don’t plan looking into it for a simple reason - there are lots of other things to fix in SFOS and maybe this port before I get to it.

Sounds like animations are timed via the 60 Hz vsync, which means double the framerate equals double the animation speed. So, it may be a good idea to decouple it from vsync timing and create an independent system timer for the animations.

On the other hand, reading some comments in the forum where people complain about slow animations and waiting times, it’s not bad when animations run at double speed. However, that would, of course, break the great Sailfish OS design philosophy, which I appreciate very much and was and still is a strong pull factor for me to join and remain on the Jolla boat. Part of the crew, part of the ship!

Please note that it maybe not true – consider it as a rumor. I haven’t tested nor haven’t look for a source of this information.

Ok, then it’s a sailor’s yarn until it’s debunked

I believe MrMagister ranted about the 120Hz animation issue for one of his ports. Maybe he can elaborate.
