Smartwatch with new Jolla phone

I am waiting for the new Jolla phone. While waiting, I am looking for information on using a smartwatch with the Sailfish operating system. Currently, I have a Galaxy Watch5 Pro, and I doubt it can be connected with all of its features. Are there any experiences or recommendations for a smartwatch to pair with the new Jolla phone? This feature might still be under development since the security conflict is obvious.

I have a Garmin Vivoactive 4 and I haven’t managed to get it connected to my J2. Ok, I have just tried once.

Is this a Garmin issue or a Sailfish/Jolla issue? I know there is this alternative smartwatch app on android called Gadgetbridge, you could try to install that and see if it can find your Garmin.

My guess is that you would be able to connect the Galaxy smartwatch over the Android App Support.

I succeeded getting my CMF watch to connect the Nothing X app.

Just be aware, you will not get full functionality and push from native apps.

Also, there is an upcoming support for the Pebble watches coming. I am sure @JPlexer can tell us more about what functionaily that will be supported.

Take a look at Amazfish, if you want to buy a natively supported smartwatch.

Thank you for this tip.

Tell us more!

Is there plans to make it work with Amazfish?

Or, are the plans to use an Android app?

neither! I have ported libpebble3 (the library used in the official android and iOS apps) to be a daemon for Rockpool! I’ve tested it for a few days now and its working pretty nicely

Read more about it now and I must reconsider my needs in a watch. I have used Amazfit watches previously and gotten used to GPS-tracking and those kinds of things. Question is if I really need them…

What is it that the app does? I mean, what is the app needed for?

New Jolla Phone 2026

SFOS 5.2.0.15.

Amazfish app from Chum.

Jolla Phone (JP) was taken in use yesterday July 21st. All is fine!! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Today I tested JP with Amazfit Stratos 3 watch:

JP and Stratos3 were paired through Amazfish app. The connection is forming for a few seconds. Then it cuts. There comes a message:

‘Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send reply, the message bus security policy blog…’

I did not see the ending of blog???.

Bakground:

I used File manager from Jolla Shop. But it did not show any bt/ files forming in /var/lib/ … /info . See **).

So I couldn’t the apply advice of comsorg January 2023 (Sailfish Forum: Amazfish and Amazfit GTS2: “ … root, add the line under the [General]
Appearance=0x0192 ( in info file ) “.

… if this is valid also for Stratos 3?!

**) in /var/lib/bluetooth/[host mac address]/[watch mac address/info

… , and then restart Bluetoothwith systemctl restart bluetooth.”

Ps. Thus the Stratos 3 option is not working in Amazfish app, yet?!

PS. PS. I found the server side pairing code (after 1st psiring to android phone) last autum when tried to test 10 V with Stratos 3. But the bt problems in Sailfished 10 V stopped everything. This is an other story.

It allows you to download and install watch faces, watch apps, etc. to your Pebble. It allows you to communicate with Pebble’s timeline, capture voice commands over Dbus, etc. It’s quite a “different” smartwatch, hence the specific app.

Kudos @JPlexer for getting libpebble3 daemon based rockpool by jplexer · Pull Request #119 · abranson/rockpool · GitHub out so quickly

Some things to try:

  • turn bluetooth off and back on, then try connecting from amazfish again
  • restart bluetooth using the sailfish utilities in settings, and then try connecting from amazfish again

Thank you vige!

I tried, but no influence in. During the first try the connection is hold / kept on for 5 to 6 seconds. Then it is cut off before producing that error message.

(I remember that someone has told so to happen over 5 seconds before he added that Appearance=0x0192, too.)

The file manager and Filecase apps show not any bt-files in /var/lib/ .. with JP 2026.

WIth 10 V /var/lib/bluetooth/ was formed. I remember that it was Filecase app to show it. So I trust on to have right pairing code. After that I have not paired my Stratos 3 with any androids.

I suppose that Stratos 3 option is not yet ready in Amazfish app.

Edit few days later:

Now FileCase shows after setting upp:

var/lib/bluetooth/[host mac address address]/ … but then just empty.

! Just like with it was earlier with 10 V. Thus [watch mac address] / info are not shown.

I came into a conclusion that the used serverside pairing code was not right one.

So then installed in Zepp in Jolla phone 2026. And paired it with Amazfit Stratos 3. Works excellent! Thus Android support works well!! :+1:

But I would like to return in using Amazfish app! :heart_hands: However I should now find a new serverside pairing code (sspc). Can I use Termux (i.e Huami-Token method) from F-Droid or what? In theory that sspc is on android side of Jolla phone 2026 right now. I would not like to destroy my Jolla phone with wrong actions. Thank you for all advices on this.

Last try at 13.45:

I used the method Huami/Xiaomi server pairing - Gadgetbridge

Used pc and received the 32 characters long server side pairing code in Zepp. Put it in Amazfish app. After trying to pair for 16 seconds, but the connection was eventually lost. Unable to pair Stratos 3 with Amazfish. Something is missing. No use to try at the moment with pairing.

Me too, I am in a situation where I need a new fitness watch anyways. I have a really old Samsung smart watch, and I want one with better gps and for fitness purposes. I was really hoping that one of the finnish brands would be supported, atleast just for Strava purposes or similar.

What smart watch brand is Finnish?

I don’t know if there are any real smart watch brands, but Polar sport watches have some smart features.

Same thing with Suunto sport watches. Even though Suunto is now Chinese-owned company, they still have their headquarters and product development in Finland.

Not a swatch brand (so bit OT), but another well-known Finnish smart device/wearable brand is Oura rings. They still do their product development in Finland, but the ownership and headquarters have moved to the US over the years.

Thought Suunto and polar were smart watch brands based in finland. Sad to her suunto got sold to China.
