I don’t use whatsapp but only Signal. With Signal, I have no problem retrieving photos from the gallery.

In my opinion, and this happens from time to time, especially when the phone is rebooted, you need to “clean” the indexing database with the Sailfish Utilities application (if you don’t have it, install it from the Jolla store). Once installed, clean up the database.

Note: after installation, Sailfish Utilities will appear in the “Settings” menu.
Note 2 : the reindexation take some times. It all depends on the number of photos, but it can take about 15 minutes.

As a user, I would expect this not to be necessary; not mainly because the system should take care of it, but aldo because i dont want to use a third-party package / script…
which even if implemented by joööa devs , still looks like a third-party package…

Well… not every open-source component has enough effort spent on it. And you can help.

What third-party script? Utilities are first-party.

Yeah and it says alot about the fact they (=sailfish-utliities) dont seem official / I didnt recognize it  (edited the thread)

Edit: for instance, do they come pre-installed?

So more info, after poking around with journalctl,

it appears that /usr/share/system_server.desktop does not exist…is this expected?

How to find out which package it belongs to?

Yes.

Doesn’t exist on my system either. Probably irrelevant but who knows when you just throw a journal fragment at us.

Have you already tried what was suggested?

Just wanted to try reproducing this, but I couldn’t.

I tried sharing a photograph from Gallery and from the Camera app with Xperia 10 III / 4.5.0.24 (Struven ketju) & WhatsApp version 2.23.18.79 and it worked as expected. I tried with both Jolla camera and Advanced Camera and the results were the same.

EDIT: I think there is a wrong version number in the bug report, @tortoisedoc.

Yup corrected.
Added a few more details.
@tuplasuhveli what are your android permissions on whatsapp?
Mines are “Access only media files”; Icant seem to find a way to grant it access to all files.

Permissions are: Camera (only when app is in use), microphone (only when app is in use), media files and contacts. I can’t find a way to permit WhatsApp an access to other files than media.

The logs go through a folder
.local/share/apkd-bridge/sharing
and there only the contact sharing is listed for whatsapp(again i think this is as expected);
after trying a few more times the logs fill up with kernel OOPS…)
