Cool, I was thinking I should report this problem, but it’s already been done.
Not only do videos play for 1 second and stop (repeatedly when play is pressed), when they do finally play, the browser crashes back to its cover, this happens quite regularly whether using YT or not. Despite all the hard work by Piggz, I still find the browser largely unusable for everyday use. 10 years on, still nothing really works with any aplomb, it’s extremely disappointing.
Everyone around me, pulls out their Android or iPhone and gets on with seeing what they need to see, but nooooo, not “Selfish Sailfish”, it’s all a bit crashy, then it’s frozen, now it “needs a reboot” bullshit…it’s all worn a bit thin for me I’m afraid, clearly nobody in management gives a toss unless it is about company funding, well I guess you have to keep them skiing holidays and new cars coming eh boss?, it’s a poor show and has been for too long.
{{{SIGH}}}
On a related note, I’ve noticed 1080p being automatically selected sooner and more frequently. I don’t let YouTube sites set cookies, so there are no saved settings. This auto-detection starts from scratch for every YouTube video played on my device in the native browser.
By the way, no saved cookies means no logging in, no personalized recommendations, no cookie popups, and less tracking. I do prefer it that way.
Just out of curiosity, have you tried to use for example firefox with AAS? Does that work any better compared to native browser? Lets hope the next ESR update will come sooner rather than later
A few days ago, I did try what you’ve said. Cutting a long story short, I did not succeed.
I was hit with too many errors/nothing found or messages saying “not available for your device”, looked in Aurora Store and F-Droid. I don’t care for grabbing any APK gleaned via a Google search either.
I haven’t spent much time on finding an alternative/workaround.
I did exactly one of the things I said I don’t care for doing. Downloaded a Firefox APK from a Google search (Firefox v 137.0.2), installed it, ran it and it works ok so far…
Videos in YouTube play back just fine, there seems to be a little bit of frame drop/lipsync, even at 360p, but all have been watchable, including using captions. Videos full screen correctly without fuss, so far, so good.
I also installed UblockOrigin plugin for the browser, it seems to be doing it’s job, I need to play a little more.
