Screen recorder application

“Magister not another application! Stop it! No…!!!”

Umm So as you all might know, sfos currently doesn’t really have screen recording capacity. I can help with that.

From what I gathered current screen recorder gathers frames… via vnc I think and literally just screenshots it and packs them together so performance is tragic.

Why do I think I can help is because as far as I’m aware I’m the only one playing with gstdroid besides jolla (microtube/picoplayer), and my idea is, create appsrc element that will provide frames from lipstick (not sure why but can study the lipstick2vnc thing) and then its straight flying, add pulseaudio as source, pipe that to gstdroidenc and spit out a file, which should give us 60fps with audio no issues. Then add nice widget to top menu and voila (and maybe PR to jolla)

I had this idea in my mind for years now but sadly with 6 ports and 9 apps (69 hah) i simply have no time to do that but let me know what you think about that

Since this topic generated 0 response I assume you guys are okay with screen recorder in 10fps with no audio :+1:

I am someone who can’t put to words the gratitude I have for you as a developer. You have pushed the Sailfish OS usability forward greatly and I have read about your apps which seems great!

That said I personally haven’t used screen recorders in any of my phones that much. Only couple of times and can’t really even remember what I recorded. But I will get C2 this month or next and truly join Sailfish ship. As a tech noob it would sound quite important to be able to do screen recordings as most of the time reading debugging in this forum I am not sure how the outcomes were achieved. I would imagine that it would help someone like me a lot if we could just record the screen and show possible problems we encounter.

So I definitely see additional value with screen recording. But I am just single person, would be great to hear other comments from the community.

Last thought: Amazing that community has the ability to develop this kind of functionalities to the OS, hopefully if implemented Jolla would bring it as a standard feature and give gratitude to the developer.

Thanks, that means a lot. It gives the “maybe it was worth it after all”

:grimacing: Why would you do that to yourself

that would be my goal too

not gonna happen

I know you have posted somewhere complete list of your applications but you could be kind and post it again? I have started to collect list of applications I want to try when I get the C2.

As someone who is just now joining I think that would support Jolla most and I have gotten feeling that support they need

All the love for this kind of initiatives :gift_heart:

Definitely Jolla’s loss… I have been wondering why they don’t hire marketing trainee or someone who could do this kind of activities. In Finland at least mandatory training periods are part of studies in some fields and currently many students and just graduated people are looking even unpaid positions. Could give real life work experience for young people and Jolla would finally have some more marketing.

Best way to get started is just to install punky suite, thats most of the apps that people might use.

So punky suite provides Pico Player, µTube (microtube), Nanofiles, musiKilo, Yottagram(yotti)

that’s 5, others are:

  1. Septitrac - traccar client
  2. Exawake - wake on lan
  3. Luxvirt - libvirt client
  4. outpost - inpost app
  5. decibici - recent app for https://forum.sailfishos.org/t/native-sf-cowboy-bike-application-to-lock-unlock-bike

Bonus points if you can spell out sexy punk
