Thanks for the update. FYI, it took Vodafone about 2 months to block my 10 ii after I received the first warning SMS/email from them.
FWIW my 10 IV is still alive and kicking on Amaysim, still no indication of that changing anytime soon, touch wood.
Xq-bt52 working on a freshly registerd Lebara $2 sim
Same phone is also working with a Vodafone sim
I recevied a 10 iii today purchased on ebay.co.uk and was able to connect to Vodafone. Thanks @lakeboy @Logophoricity.
Yeah, I had a word to Vodafone on your behalf!
I have an Xperia 10 V (XQ-DC72, TAC 35154067), that I am using with SFOS.
When 3g shutdown, I left Exetel (Telstra MVNO) as the phone got blocked and went to Amaysim (Optus MVNO) and all has been good.
I just now realised that Optus has finally released a blocked device checker similar to Telstras. Curiously, I checked my TAC in optus checker and all was good. So I rechecked my TAC in telstras checker and it now says all good. Previously Telstras checker had said blocked.
I wouldnāt mind moving back to Exetel/Telstra, but before I muck around, has anyone else had success moving back/being unblocked by Telstra?
Thanks,
So it seems is is true that Telstra has unblocked some TACās that matter to us SFOS userās. From James Parkers latest update:
Itās also worth mentioning that Telstra has now unblocked a number of newer 5G Xperia Devices.
This includes the IV, V and VI series of the Xperia 1s, 5s and 10s.Older III and below series are still largely blocked, except the US and Japan Xperia 5 IIIās (XQ-BQ42 & XQ-BQ62).
The latest Sony Android 15 update for those newer devices has enabled VoLTE support for Telstra with an updated āROW Commercialā Modem config.
It seems these devices were unblocked in the last few weeks, some time after the 5th of January.
Those devices could still call 000 on Telstra anyway with previous firmware versions, yet Telstra still decided to block them.
Those newer devices also still show up as being blocked by Optus as of the 20th of January.
Just tested the Sony 10 V with SFOS 5.0.0.55 and the call went through on Amaysim. (Optus).
EDIT: It stopped working after a day or two.
My 10 IV has continued to work on Amaysim since I installed SFOS prior to the 3G shutdown.
Is anyone using the C2 or the Xperia V over here in Aus? Iām with amaysim, just wanting to finally kick android to the curb.
A visit to AUS for me was the final reason to ditch sailfish OS and move on. At the time 04/24 i had an Xperia 10 II and a telstra SIM. There was no way of getting VoLTE to work, i tried really hard! The information in the VoLTE table is just wrong, or was for my device.
VoLTE is still ābetaā in sfos, but mandatory in AUS. If you care about using your phone as a phone and txt with it, IMHO sailfish (on whichever device with whichever provider) is not an option in AUS or for anyone visiting.
There might well be combinations of devices/providers that work to some degree. But nothing you can rely on to stay like that, with jolla and providers likely not being able/willing to help.
Hi @mstancombe ,
I have a 10V (XQ-DC72) with v4b blobs on Amaysim, and whilst there is a lot of things that do not work yet (see elsewhere on this forum), calls, texts, mms and data work perfectly (except the ringing tone when making an outgoing call is a little not quite right yet.
I should add, I only pay for 4g, so cannot comment on 5g, but that shouldnt change calls etc.
Let me know if you have any further questions.
If you have a different model of this phone it would be worth checking the Optus and Telstra TAC checkers and Sony Devices - Network Support Table | Is this Phone Blocked? - 4G/5G Device Blocking Checker .
I must disagree with hennsch.
My 10 IV has been running SFOS since a week after 4.6 was made available. Iām signed up for Early Access and have been upgrading SFOS the day new releases are released.
This phone has been my daily driver - and indeed, my only phone - since I bought it in 2022. Obviously I had no problems on Android. Iāve had nothing but trouble since switching to SFOS, what with no camera, dodgy internet stability, the phone crashing whenever the charger is unplugged, only being able to take calls over bluetooth or else loudspeaker, and so onā¦
But calls, texts and mms messages have always worked. Admittedly as Iāve stated before, Iām on Amaysim not Telstra, and Iām not going to deny that you may have had trouble on Telstraās network, but I must disagree with the claim that VoLTE on Sailfish is unreliable in Australia regardless of hardware or carrier. Nothing else works on SFOS, but Iāve always been able to send texts and call people on loudspeaker.
As a resident of Australia and currently with Vodafone on an X10 III, I have had no problems with my phone, using vailla SFOS. I use VoLTE and have no problems calling, receiving sms. Sometimes I have an issue with MMS but thatās okay for me.
EDIT: XQ-BT52 variant
Same with Westpac
Xperia 10 III (XQ-BT52). Back in October blocked on Coles (Optus).
Bought another 'phone, put iodƩOS on it.
Have just switched carrier to Kogan (Vodafone) and the 10 III is working.
Which apparently people on this forum already knew about. I just havenāt been reading the forum in recent months.
Now I just have to work out what to do about the echo during calls.
A little bit of mainstream news coverage on how poor the device blocking has been. Interesting to see Optus blocking far more devices that Telstra.
And the site listing all the devices is also interesting.
Sony Devices - Network Support Table | Is this Phone Blocked? - 4G/5G Device Blocking Checker
I hope other countries will not make the same mistake, allowing device dealers to block. With 19% of users needing new hardware also the manufacturers probably happily claimed some of their devices to better be denied (while likely capable).
