Oooh. You’ve reminded me, I’ve an amaysim SIM in an android tablet and a boost one in a CCTV camera I could whack in and at least test data access to their networks. Will do that tonight and consider porting to one of them if it works.
Good idea. Let us know how you get on!
Seems networks are blocking phones using VoLTE that they don’t specifically approve of. So you’re right. And with the 1 October date being when my handset got blocked, I wonder if Optus have started it.
RIP anyone visiting Australia who needs to call 000
The important bit in there is that from 1 October they’re blocking any “triple zero impacted device”. Sigh.
I only had my device for 1 week lol. And spent most of that getting Sailfish the way I liked.
So I guess that’s it for grey import devices in Australia as the other networks will surely do the same when their 3G gets turned off shortly.
So question for anyone who knows more about IMEIs and grey imports than I, is there a Sailfish-compatible device I can buy that will pass the tests that Australian network’s borked VoLTE standards require?
Is even the Community Phone compatible?
I’m currently using my Xperia 10 IV on Android and have received no written communication (text, e-mail, snail mail, etc.) that my service is to be interrupted or otherwise affected by the 3G closure. To the best of my ability, I believe I’ve confirmed that VoLTE is working, though I also believe it won’t work on Telstra’s network. Given the article you just linked to, that implies that Optus will not be able to guarantee that emergency calling will work and will deny service to my device presumably without warning in the coming days / weeks.
I believe SFOS uses the same “open standard” VoLTE firmware that Sony ships in stock Android. Given that, why would Optus have blocked your phone but not mine? Have you contacted them (eg. via live chat) to confirm why the service has been interrupted?
Yeah I don’t know the reason either. And I just spent 2 hours trying to get to Optus to advise why they’ve blocked it. They won’t tell me. They don’t even consider potential impact on 000 to be an issue. I gave up in the end.
Anyone want to buy a barely-used Xperia 10 iii lol?
Amaysim here, my 10iii is still active, although with the anoying warning when I make a call.
I am with Vodafone on an X 10 III and no issues.
I do have the issue that many others with no dial tone using VoLTE but that’s okay.
So VoLTE is not working on Amaysim?
Vodaphone has already killed 3G, correct? So VoLTE must be working on Vodaphone.
Interesting. I guess that means that Vodaphone at this stage might be the best bet for a SFOS phone…
Yep, I can’t pick up 3G on Vodafone.
I would wait until after November.
Kinda annoyed I paid for my Sailfish licence and only got a week out of it. I should have been more aware of VoLTE devices getting clobbered by govt. Caveat emptor and all that. Still, was a fun learning activity.
VoLTE is working on Amaysim, just I constantly get warning my phone will stop working from 28th October. Then puts through call
Unbelievable!
I don’t suppose there is any way to fool the network by spoofing the device type?
With the shutdown mere days away, does anyone have a device that will work post shutdown?
Anyone now of a way to get the proper telstra or other AUNZ mcfg-sw.mbn files onto a Xperia 10V?
Thanks all,
Does anyone know how exactly the device ban is being worked out. I read that it might be based on IMEI. Does that mean the providers simply whitelist all the IMEI’s of the phone models they know work?
I guess I am mostly curious as if it based on model/IMEI, or does the individual phone report ability to the network? If the model works on the network with Android, does anyone know if it will keep working no matter what the OS is and the actual E000 abilities are?
I ask as I would like to keep using Sailfish, rather than being forced across to IOS or Android.
I asked Volla phone if there phones will work, and they replied that currently they are getting blocked, but they are working with providers to allow access, as they meet all requirements. So, I wonder if that means a Volla phone will be the way forward. They get the IMEI whitelisted based on Android abilities, and I flash one of @piggz ports, that has some support for VoLTE.
Keen to hear from anyone with more knowledge of the actual blocking criteria and how it is being managed by the network.
Thanks
I think we’ll just have to wait and see. Only 36 hours to go. If Android is still working on Monday then I’ll install SFOS and try my luck
Hoping for the best, and looking forward to hearing from you. I see on other forums that oddly enough the 10 IV got a firmware update that added the AUNZ mcfg-sw.mbn files. This hasn’t happened for 10V.
Just installed Sailfish 4.6.0.15 onto my Xperia 10 V XQ-DC54 and the call went through with no issues.
Prior to the install I let android update to the latest release (68.1.A.2.204) and ran all the suggested tests in the Sailfish update guide. 4G was working with android.
Currently with Amaysim (Optus).
@juz updated post with the extra info.
Hi @bellis,
This is great to hear that things are working for you. Thanks for taking the time to update everyone. I assume you must have a sim on the vodafone or optus network?
My Xperia X, got kicked off the network this morning. So when I get home I’ll be getting out my 10V. My Telstra MVNO sim won’t work though I am pretty sure. It wasn’t registering on the VoLTE network on the weekend on Telstra. I’ll stop on the way home and get a new sim. Would you mind sharing which network you are working on? I’ll try and duplicate your experience.
Thanks!
Just be carefull, as amaysim have finally said why they are blocking via an email, it’s due to not supporting emergancy call over 4g, now with a new law stating that should a phonr not support/register 000 emergancy over 4g block it from calls and data if it’s got a local sim in it. My 10III is still active, but waiting for it to get kicked.
As sailfish does not support emergancy over 4g yet.
