Jolla has a long history for attending FOSDEM. In previous years there have been talks by Jolla and community members about Sailfish OS, birds-of-a-feather (BOF) events and the now-regular community meetup. This year does not make a difference, we are attending FOSDEM’25 in Brussels. Stay tuned for more information.
During last week’s community meeting we asked if somebody would like to help us to organize Sailfish meetup after FOSDEM event activities on Saturday 1st February.
I think @abranson has organized some earlier FOSDEM community meetups – would you like to check now as well? Maybe @rubdos could also help locally. Something simple in a suitable pub or so, and a place that is easily reachable via public transportation from the FOSDEM venue. We were thinking that 7:00 PM local time would be good. Let’s meetup!
I’m supposed to know this city! I seldomly host more than a handful of people, though, and I usually live outside the real center. But I’ll be happy to join and help a hand on Friday and Saturday, and/or Sunday night!
The limit for the community dinner at FOSDEM 2020 at the Kasbah was 25 people. If more seats are needed I could call and ask them if you state how many.
We’ve booked a corner of The Black Sheep for the evening, reserved on Saturday from 8:30pm but we’ll be there a bit earlier (after the rugby finishes). They’ve got a good selection of bar food and a good choice of beers. It looks like there are a fair few sailors going to Brussels this year, and we’ll all be there.
The address is:
Chaussée de Boondael 8
1050 Bruxelles
It’s on the 71 bus route between the centre and FOSDEM.
Perfect!
I guess we have to read Saturday night at 8:30PM
I’ll be there and you’ll forgive my school and poor english.
I think I’ll come with my son, but I’ll ask him.
And very happy to meet the community!
Thanks to everyone who came! It was a fantastic evening, a jewel in the middle of a really great FOSDEM for SailfishOS. I think the bar setting worked really well for people to be able to mingle better than the fixed seating of a restaurant, but we will try to find a slightly quieter place next time! That food will be hard to beat though.
Was great indeed! I’ll keep an eye out during the year for other great places, just in case something pops up.
I think those two are the best group pictures. Someone with better PhotoshopGIMP skills than me can probably move some faces from one to the other, to make everyone look in the lens (DM for original files!)
Fully agree on the bar setting. Much more casual than the forced seating in a restaurant. Would heavily appreciate a similar set up next year!
That enabled us short notice AsteroidOS guys to join easily. What a great evening indeed. Thanks for organizing this.
