As mentioned elsewhere, I made a little plugin so you can subscribe to RSS and Atom feeds to view in your events view. They all get bundled together in one section, sorted by age, and you can dismiss them individually or all at once when you’re done with them. You add them as ‘accounts’ in the Settings app just like you would web calendars. They’re not really accounts, though they do support basic HTTP auth if you need that.
Thanks Andrew. Really impressive!
Hints:
You can subscribe to categories of this Forum using RSS. Useful for e.g. Announcements or Jolla Blog.
Also, most of the Fediverse can be followed this way without the need for a system integration.
Another hint: if a web page does not clearly present an RSS/Atom feed link, try inspecting the source:
- load the web page
- in the Address bar, prepend
view-source:(e.g.view-source:https://example.org/index.html(works in Mozilla-based browsers, like the Sailfish Browser) - use “find in page” to search for somethnig like:
<link rel="alternate" type="application/atom+xml" title="" href="/site.atom">
<link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="" href="/site.rss">
and use the URL referenced in href to subscribe. In this example it would be https://example.org/site.rss.
Does your publishing on OpenRepos mean your attempt to upstream into Sailfish OS proper failed?
No, haven’t discussed that yet. Thought I’d see how popular it was first.
@abranson Extremly cool!!! This should be officially added to SFOS!
Very useful! If more like this gets added to Sailfish, I hope there will be an option to change the order of the feeds. Depending on what they use it for, someone could prefer having their RSS feed above the Mastodon feed.
