So I decided to just start asking some of the providers of my preferred Android apps if they are willing to provide a native version for Sailfish OS. I do not expect any of these to actually happen, but if you don’t ask, it will for sure not happen.
The first 6 requests are out, other will follow in the coming weeks.
Ente Auth, first response “I’ve shared your request for a native Sailfish OS version of Ente Auth with the team for consideration.”
Firefox Focus, first response “Thanks for submitting an idea to the Mozilla Connect community! Your idea is now open to votes (aka kudos) and comments.”, see https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/ideas/sailfish-os-version-of-firefox-focus/idi-p/138881
HERE WeGo, first response “At this time, as you know, official versions of the app are only supported by Android and iOS operating systems. I’ve forwarded your request to the team, though, so that they are aware, but I don’t know if this is something they could consider for quite some time.”
Moshidon, no response yet, see [Feature Request] Provide Sailfish OS build version · Issue #704 · LucasGGamerM/moshidon · GitHub
Nextcloud Notes, no response yet, see Sailfish OS native version · Issue #3360 · nextcloud/notes-android · GitHub
Super Productivity. no repsonse yet as the developer is a bit overwhelmed in tickets, see 💡 Sailfish OS native client · Issue #10187 · super-productivity/super-productivity · GitHub
For those where a ticket is created it might help if more SFOS users pitch in to request a native version. The more people ask for it, the more likely something might happen.
Nice initiative. Adjusted title a bit.
Good initiative!
I voted (kudos) for the idea on Mozilla!
I think making a shared sheet (CryptPad or Framacalc) could be more effective for tracking than posting messages one by one.
That’s my opinion.
Great initiative! Hopefully as many as possible joins ![]()
I think most of the apps you mentioned might say, “We won’t provide service here because there are too few users/apps,” and I also don’t think they would be very interested unless there are advertising opportunities or ways to make money. Even in Huawei’s own app store, some apps barely work and you are forced to rely on GBox. When it comes to SFOS, I’m not sure; it depends on how they look at this platform and whether they see any value in supporting it.
There is a native Nextcloud Notes app… but has Errors and isn’t connected to Nextcloud system account.
You can monetise the apps with ads on SFOS, nothing prevents that.
Would be lovely to get monetisation for Harbour also for apps. Would be easy way to support devs ![]()
So you’re saying: analyze me and, based on the things I like, bring advertisements right in front of me, store my data, and sell it? If something like that happened, I would ask SFOS this: “You were so afraid of AI applications because of privacy concerns; what happened that you became so comfortable with these applications storing your data?” I would say that.
I mean, I’m not saying that we want that, just saying that avoiding SFOS because of monetization does not make sense.
wow! i didn’t expect such a response
Good idea to have a shared list of requests. I’ll look into that.
