Request: Support for generic WebDAV photo sources in Gallery

I would like to request support for generic WebDAV photo sources in the SailfishOS Gallery application.

The idea would be to add a WebDAV account plugin under Accounts, where users could configure:

  • WebDAV server URL
  • Support for other remote storage protocols, such as SFTP.
  • Username and password, or an app password
  • One or more remote folders
  • Whether subfolders should be included
  • Read-only of course
  • Thumbnail caching (using built-in EXIF pictures)
  • Video support

The selected folders should appear in Gallery as a separate source, for example:
text

Gallery
β”œβ”€β”€ Photos
β”œβ”€β”€ Videos
β”œβ”€β”€ Screenshots
β”œβ”€β”€ Androidβ„’storage
└── MyNAS
       β”œ 2026
       β”” Screenshots

The WebDAV photos should not simply be imported into the normal local β€œPhotos” collection. They should remain associated with the configured WebDAV account and be displayed as a separate Gallery source or album.

A possible implementation could use the existing Nextcloud account and Gallery integration as a starting point. Nextcloud already uses WebDAV for file access, so parts of its account, credential-storage, synchronization, or Gallery-extension code might be reusable. However, the proposed feature should support generic WebDAV servers, not only Nextcloud.
