Most apps don’t take up too much space, but there are certain apps listed in the first post that take up more.

Hi. I partially bricked my Xperia 10 V after try to update: the OTA update showed an error after install and, after reboot, when I put my disk unlock password, the screen keeps in black.
I only can access to “events” menu, no other window opens. Neither ask the device unlock password.
Are there any way to access to my device from console to complete the update?

Now managed to successfully update Sony Xperia 10 iii and v. Both got stuck with the progress bar on 100% and required a forced reboot.
The installation process seems also to have deleted a number of my apps, e.g. Yottagram. I can also no longer install these post-upgrade. Is this intentional?

@chazaq those numbers don’t seem to add up quite right… What is the total used and free space shown?
@AlmuHS did you have any patches installed? As that sounds like a completely new failure mode…
After stopping Android support, I copied /opt/appsupport/system.img to my sd card. This freed up 635Mb which got me over the line on both my Xperia 10 iii and 10v.
My intention was to copy it back again after the upgrade (and before restarting Android support), but the 5.1 installation created a new system.img anyway, so the copy back wasn’t necessary.
All my Android apps are still there and working, so this was an easy fix for me to get the necessary free space on the root partition. I guess this is not a ‘supported’ solution, but it worked for me. Others’ mileage may vary.

Some apps need to be built against the updated libraries. This mainly affects packages from Chum, Openrepos, and other sources, which can have dependencies on things for which we can’t guarantee any kind of ABI/API compatibility.

I had a similar though too. In fact this seems to be the easiest solution.
Could someone from @Jolla share thoughts about this? If AAS regularly gets reinstalled/updated with a newer version in the SFOS update process why not implement AAS uninstall and reinstall into the update process/script?
(And sorry if this may be a dumb idea - I’m no Dev.)

had to do a force reboot on my xa2 but overall system is up and running
only weird thing, chum, pure maps and osm scout server disappeared, is anyone experiencing the same?

See here [Release notes] Pispala 5.1.0.7 - Early Access - #47 by Keto … We have to wait for these app owners to rebuild their apps against the new SFOS 5.1 libraries if I understand it correctly.

Thank you all for your hard work, perseverance and skill.
On my 10V, had 1.6 G free space before upgrade. Update progress bar went to 100% and I let the phone sit for 15 minutes. Did the Vol Up + Power combo to reboot it. Booted up fine.
Prior to update, I had the issue where it always showed in Airplane Mode. That does not happen now. Yay!

I manually launched a SFOS backup to my M365 OneDrive and that worked flawlessly.
I used my Logitech keyboard on Android apps and SFOS-native apps and it works fine. Nice!
I am only slightly disheartened that 10V camera and flashlight/torch isn’t operational. I wasn’t certain what the final answer was going to be on those, and maybe they’re just a lost cause due to Sony blobs and lack of actively supporting Jolla as they work on this? I don’t hold a grudge against Jolla at all.
I have two M365 accounts on my phone, so composing an email and having the From: field accurately populated will save me from accidentally sending from the incorrect account - something I have done many times before. Thank you! This was an improvement I didn’t know was coming or that I needed, but I love it!
Post-upgrade, I have 1.5 GB available on my root partition. I was pleasantly surprised. I did appreciate Keto’s explanation of the free space checks and how it’s difficult to do, and how they worked around it thus far. He didn’t have to provide that detailed explanation, but I thoroughly enjoyed that peak behind the curtain.
The phone feels a bit snappier…faster to do things. That could be my perception as I don’t have a video timing before and after.
I called VoLTE and got ring-back tones, which like teleshoes, I really appreciate that!

Thank you the upgrade went smoothly on my C2. Had to reboot manully. Btw. the download was fast.
Everything seem to work exept Chum and Pure Maps are missing.
Totally non critcal bug; but I happened to switch the net to wifi while downloading the update; well the download didnt resume at all. Also there seems to be no way to cancel the operation? Now its stuck in the download animation.
Update went through alright on my X 10 IV, first reboot just bought me back to the login screen with no update applied, but that has happened many times before. Second attempt the update went through, I got stuck at the end of the loading screen and after 10 minutes I manually rebooted to an updated system. First impressions of the updated system are good, I appreciate the effort involved in all the under the hood changes but the system crash when unplugging the charger, lack of a camera and earpiece speaker are still my biggest complaints which make daily driving this phone so difficult. Option to restart ofono and fixing the weather app are the best user-facing improvements to this version in my opinion.
The 1.2 GB requirement is a pain, I had to uninstall almost everything (AAS, all except a handful of native apps). An easy method to remove unneeded dependencies would be nice as no doubt there’s a few of those taking up space but I do not now how to track them down.
Can I ask why in the day and age when 128 GB phones are considered on the low end of storage, we still have such a small root partition? I have 60+ GB free on my home partition and a 128 GB SD card in the phone as well. The root partition could be three times the size and it wouldn’t hurt anyone.

Needed to manually reboot phone using Vol Up + Power button.
Looks like I still can’t upload Backups to OneDrive nor view images in OD in the Gallery This.
EDIT: Add to that - I can’t connect to my WiFi(s) - I get the error “incorrect password”
That’s incorrect as the rest of my devices are quite happy.
