I checked, yes it goes to 2G when in a call. I wrote a message to my provider. They don’t support VoLTE on my phone. On some others they do … . On my Xperia 10III never had this issue.

My provider edpnet told me to look ‘temporarily’ for a phone that supports VoLTE until they figured out the bad 2G coverage in my area and till the time they fixed VoLTE support for other phones.

Only iphones and samsungs running android are supported …

Yep, exactly the same situation. I noticed reception got a lot worse with the new sim cards, and I live right in the middle of the city, which felt like cruel irony considering the network is run by Citymesh. But the incomprehensible audio is still very likely to be a bug, because it never happened on the Xperia 10 II or Jolla C2 with the same sim card.

At least they’re doing something with VoLTE now, though. Before they moved to Citymesh’s network, customer service told me there were no plans for VoLTE support even with the 3G shutdown then on the horizon.

Yesterday I decided to switch to a provider who could guarantee voLTE
They couldn’t make me keep my number because ‘I had a business account’.
Calls back & forth to both providers, I decided to cancel going to the new provider. It created other problems and that was not what I was looking for.
In the mean time my old provider proposed me (3€/month extra) a 5G guaranteed connection. Paid that. This morning my mom again couldn’t understand a word I said. Icon was on 2G again.
Called the helpdesk. Looking for the button ‘force 5G’ but it’s not there, only ‘prefer 5G’
My other thought is: My xperia 10III never had this issue. Is there something wrong with the phone instead of the provider?
Can Jolla create a function ‘force 5G’?

Problem is that my usual contacts (wife, mother) will soon not pick up the phone anymore when they see it’s me and don’t want to be confronted with fragments and distorted sounds of me talking.
Is this a Jolla problem or a provider problem? I need this to be resolved soon please!

Sorry for your problems. Calling issues are annoying since they involve others. In my case, enabling VoLTE solved my issues. But you probably tried already…

Just fore the sake of completeness:
May be a change of the provider is an option too. They forgot to tell.

I bought a SIM-card from another provider that guarantees VoLTE and calling is flawless, no more sound issues of people not understanding me.

But still unclear to me why I never had the issue on my Xperia 10III …

I’m pretty sure the reason is that both modems handle 2G calls differently.
It might be that JP chooses wrong codec for voice in some circumstances. I hope Jolla has enough informations and logs to properly debug this.

This is not a solution for me. Moved the SIM card from my previously used Xperia10II with sailfish, where this issue never exists. So it is not the providers or SIM card fault. It needs to be fixed on JP2026.
