On the Jolla C2, the signal bar for 4G appeared to be hardcoded to 100% before the actual update 5.0.0.76. Now, it usually shows one bar most of the time, but it rarely goes up to 2 till 4 of the 5 bars when near the antenna towers of my carrier.
I compare it to Android with the same carrier: when you connect there to WLAN, the bars increase (Voice over WLAN?), so this seems to be a form of manipulation regarding signal strength when using WLAN on Android. Therefore, this is not really comparable 1:1 to SFOS, and I’m starting to believe that SFOS shows the true reality of the signal strength.
While signal strength is important for maintaining a connection, signal quality is crucial for ensuring that the connection remains reliable and efficient. A device can show strong signal bars but still experience poor performance if the quality is low.
Is seems that SFOS displays signal strength rather than signal quality. Since I have no issues with mobile data connections or VoLTE calls in quality, this appears to be some kind of “cosmetic error”.
I only have one bar on the C2 as well, but no problems with telephony. During a car ride, I was able to see on the radio display, at the beginning of a call, the immediate rise of the signal strength to the maximum with the hands-free system. When idle, I can get up to 2 bars at most.
Got the same issue with 5.0.0.76 and 5.0.0.77. Can’t say everything works OK though, as I’m constantly having major issues with this connectivity bug that’s discussed elsewhere in the forum.
