Re ask permissions for Jolla apps after some time

REPRODUCIBILITY:Intermittent (can occur several times per day or after some days later)
OS VERSION: Sailfish OS 5.2.0.17 (Finlayson)
HARDWARE: Jolla Phone 2026
UI LANGUAGE: Finnish
REGRESSION: Unknown

DESCRIPTION:

The application repeatedly requests permissions that have already been granted. The issue occurs intermittently and may happen multiple times during the same day when launching the application.

PRECONDITIONS:

  • Required permissions have already been granted to the application.
  • The application has been used previously without changing permission settings.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Launch the application.
  2. Grant all requested permissions.
  3. Close the application.
  4. Launch the application again later.
  5. Observe that the application may request the same permissions again, even though they have already been granted.
  6. Repeat application launches during the day.

EXPECTED RESULT:

The application should remember previously granted permissions and should not request the same permissions again unless they have been manually revoked by the user.
Easier way to manage apps permissions?
Timed permissions?
Only while using permission like in Android?

ACTUAL RESULT:

The application intermittently asks for permissions again during startup, despite the permissions already being granted. This can occur multiple times within a single day.

MODIFICATIONS:

No known modifications.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

The issue does not occur every time the application is started, but it has been observed several times per day. The problem appears to be related to permission persistence, as previously granted permissions are not always recognized by the application during startup.

I have never experienced this, do you have some example apps? Do the apps ask some other permissions than permission to access secrets? As I think that one is intentional design choice

Text tv app, sfos forum, Trites, example.

I have only used SFOS forum app of those myself. One thing that came immediately to my mind, could it be bug in apps? Could it be that those apps miss handle the message to system regarding the permissions?

As a side note, I want to thank you for actively reporting all kind of bugs! Very good thing to raise these topics

Applications have nothing to do with permission handling (apart from listing them in .desktop).

It is all handled through the launcher.

Usually the prompt reappears if any permissions changed in .desktop, of if the user resets them in Settings/Apps.

In this case I strongly suspect it’s to do with the launcher-starts-wrong-app bug.

Ah thank you for quick explanation! Do you mean the QML only app bug?

Yes, exactly. I suspect the launcher is confused about which app is being launched and thinks the permissions changed.

Ah, would make sense!

I also noticed that the “lipstick” bug appeared again that if i have 2-4 Jolla apps open it opens random open app and doesnt launch the app am starting.

Yes, same here. Hope we’ll get the promised updated with the solution soon.

Now we just need new release to drop out

Please fix the title.
Now it reads like a feature request to do so and not a bug report that it does.

Also these are not “Jolla apps”.
