Pure maps + TTS

Do we have good TTS for Pure Maps?

Ever thought about putting your thread title into some random search engine?

Hi. Used picoTTS already?

My question is about good one :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

That, and why it isn’t good, would have been excellent additions to the first post.

But there is the word goog inside the first post

May I quote from the Pure Maps Openrepos page (which is one of the top results of my search engine when using your thread title):

Voice navigation requires that you manually install a text-to-speech (TTS) engine – Mimic, Flite, PicoTTS and Espeak are supported. Their quality is about in that order…

If you like to know which one is good enough for your personal needs, try them.

This is a forum, not a chat.

ok sorry. they all are not really good tts models. but ok. I see, in this forum is the best behavior nithing to ask, because all that questions are doof.

We’re just all old and grumpy. Well, I’m not grumpy today! But, I wanted to ask … what is a good TTS model/engine? I don’t use them, but I’m curious.

at least f.e. sherpaTTS from Fdroid. there are many language models and some configurations. so the voice can be more naturale as from proposed here.

mimic seems to be better as picotts, but only with english language possible.

Ah, ok, you mean the voices themselves. shepard ( GitHub - woheller69/ttsEngine ) seems to be based on the encoder/decoder model Kaldi.

yes. but Sherpa can be used only fir Android apps, not for SFOS native ones

there are c++ apis for kaldi available so that’s possible. Out of curiousity, I’m looking at the mycroft (mimic) engine to see what voices are available. But, this is a fast moving domain and I think mycroft is already history. I’ve restarted my research (text translation) with Fabrice Bellard’s tt_server and he has support for parler_tts So it’s a ‘tangential’ interest: Text to Speech

I don’t see this forum like that at all. But it helps a lot:

  • if one try to search before asking,

  • question is clear, has all aspects of what author wants to know

  • if there is more topics, author should open them separately

EDIT: many of us are grumpy it that is not the case.

I use WifeTTS, which always thinks she knows the route better than Pure Maps but always refuses to drive the car. :joy:
