REPRODUCIBILITY: 100% – occurs every time when sharing a photo from the native Sailfish Gallery to Proton Drive
OS VERSION: 5.2.0.17 (Finlayson)
HARDWARE: Jolla Phone 2026
UI LANGUAGE: English / Polish
REGRESSION: Unknown – first tested on this device/version
DESCRIPTION:
When sharing a PNG image from the native Sailfish Gallery to the Android Proton Drive app through the Sailfish share menu, the file is uploaded successfully, but its original filename and file type are lost. For example, the original file: Screenshot_20260929_164632_001.png is uploaded to Proton Drive as: 0bbc96d6-4cb2-4c42-8847-4c7064d4e2f3
Proton Drive identifies the resulting file as application/octet-stream (BIN file), so no image preview is available. Uploading the same image by opening Proton Drive first and selecting + → Upload a file works correctly: the original .png filename is retained and the image can be previewed normally.
This suggests that information about the file is being lost somewhere in the native Sailfish → Android AppSupport sharing hand-off.
PRECONDITIONS:
Proton Drive Android app installed under Android AppSupport and signed in.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE:
-
Open a PNG screenshot in the native Sailfish Gallery.
-
Tap Share.
-
Select Proton Drive.
-
Select a destination and tap Upload.
-
Open the uploaded file in Proton Drive.
-
Check File details.
EXPECTED RESULT:
The image is uploaded using its original filename and .png extension, is recognised as image/png, and can be previewed in Proton Drive.
ACTUAL RESULT:
The image is uploaded with a UUID-style filename without an extension. Proton Drive identifies it as a BIN file with MIME type application/octet-stream, and the image cannot be previewed. Manually adding .png to the uploaded file’s name does not restore the preview, indicating that the problem is not limited to the missing filename extension.
MODIFICATIONS:
Patchmanager and Storeman installed. No modifications intentionally affecting Gallery, sharing, Android AppSupport or Proton Drive.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
The original screenshot is a valid PNG (image/png, 1032 × 2272, approximately 90.8 KB).
The Proton Drive copy created through Gallery → Share is the same approximate size (90.86 KB), but Proton Drive reports it as application/octet-stream. Directly uploading the original image from within Proton Drive works correctly.
