Could we do it?
We make some designs, find a partner, and then tell Jolla: “Hey, here are the designs, and the company that can make and distribute it for you, you only have to make an account and collect the small profits.”
I think there’s swag sites that make this very easy: You just submit a design and it gets printed on a selection of standard products (T-shirt, mugs etc.) on demand. In other words, there’s no cost but of course the swag site makes all the money. At least I think that’s how it works.
In any case, an SVG file of, say, the SFOS swirly sailfish thingy, would be an easy enough start.

That’s exactly what I was thinking. The margin will be very small. It’s mostly brand recognition and customer service. But still, either Jolla should take the initiative, or Jolla should register and upload the designs. We cannot do it for them.

@jolla, how is e.g. the SfOS logo licensed? Or are you willing to give someone permission to print some swag?
No, we can’t. If individual users without any affiliation can use Jolla’s brands or logos, it could turn into a PR disaster. Imagine Jolla being associated with crime, terorrism or (extremist) politics, becouse they gave away control over their brand.
No, the account should be their’s, the decission about their brand should be their’s, the responsibility should be their’s. The only thing they could do besides that is: “Hey, we like these designs, may we use them?” And all we could do is prepwork and hand them those designs.
We are not allowed to use their brands or logos on work we intent to publish, without their permission.

I am all for some Jolla merch, but I’m not a big fan of this idea (no offence!). The thought of a bunch of cheaply printed, crap shirts/cups/whatever with Jolla/SfOS branding would be disheartening.
I would be willing to wait and pay extra for a quality, well made silkscreen or stitched apparel that will last a lifetime (just like their phones!).
However, I fully agree some merch is warranted, just not the cheap and easy route.

What type of quality are we talking about that clothes can’t represent? A Jolla branded leather strap for a Rolex Daytona as an example?

No, nothing like that 
Like I said, I’m all for clothing, just not a Jolla logo slapped on a bunch of crappy shirts or other paraphernalia that will end up in the garbage in a years time. Perhaps a collaboration with a local or European apparel company?
I have one in mind that I’m going to try and get both entities connected

I was just joking btw, of course I agree here.
If the quality is actually good and the branding is not just a random huge stamp, you can actually wear it outside without looking like a human billboard.

My questions in the community meeting of June 4 was answered (not a quote):
Yes, Jolla is planning merch. The first item will be a t-shirt. They don’t know when it will happen though. Integration with Jolla store is important.
