There are two new search engines provided out of the box, Ecosia and Qwant:

Ecosia was chosen to be the default engine from now on:

This change will be available to users at some point, but since I’m not a member of Jolla staff, I can’t tell when exactly.

Ofc, search on this forum first. Once you know your way around the terminal, it’s easy to change DNS and block ads in the browser. Changing the search engine is even easier.

There is also the Mycroft Project (even though it seems to be down at the moment) that allows you to install the search engine for a lot of services (I even created one for a service that did not present itself as searchable but had a trivial URL for this purpose).

As others already pointed out. Two months using the device are fine but more than two hours reading the forum or using the search function for at least one hour would have answered many of your questions which are now being answered by the community.

And you might have had a better time, too.

This is fine for you and me, but think about those who don’t know how to use a linux terminal. Those who buy it won’t start troubleshooting if something goes wrong; they’ll say it’s not a good phone, don’t you think?

I partially agree with you:

  • Privacy search: they released the update .76 ver, so it’s better wait until the official.
  • DNS: I think that this kind of things should have at least a specific wiki page or document rather than something we try to search online.

It is too soon to make a conclusion right now, Sailfish OS is always evolving and maybe you can see it in 5.1

I setup Qwant in Firefox in few minutes by visiting its website and Blocky as adblocker (local DNS, which also works with 4G).
