Pocketmoney App

Is there a pocket money app where you can enter your kids’ allowances for each month and input expenses? I tried Expenditure, but its usage is rather complicated for this task. Until now, I have been using Jolla Notes for it, but it’s a bit cumbersome, and I have to calculate everything by hand.

EDIT
There’s also lelig Calc in the harbour store which is a spreadsheet app …

More than one child? I’ve never tried it but there is: Zatraty | OpenRepos.net — Community Repository System which I believe is just items and totals per month.

As exercice, I compiled the missing aarch64 package. Here we go: harbour-expense.
And his forks with some new features: harbour-zatraty

I could add features for this to Expenditure, or if the workflow is very different, I could easily build a separate app using Expenditure as the base.

Can describe in detail how an intuitive/efficient workflow would look like for you?

I was planning anyway to add a concept of budgets and accounts to Expenditure. Of course the idea was more aimed at traveling, i.e. keeping track of how much cash you have in different currencies, keeping track of credit cards, etc. I’m sure the use cases could be combined, though.

An Idea for the Startpage:

An overview of your kids’ names and balances. By selecting a name, you could add/edit expenses.

Our kids receive a fixed amount every month on the first day, following this scheme:

  • Until 10 years old: €X/month (for example, a 7-year-old gets €7 per month)
  • 11 years: €15
  • 12 years: €17
  • 13 years: €20
  • 14 years: €25
  • 15 years: €30
  • 16 years: €40
  • 17 years: €55
  • 18 years: €75 (and then they can move out, hehe)

Perhaps this could be added automatically by the app every month, and you can define the date/interval/steps/values.

I could beta-test it, and then the database could be backed up with MyBackup.

I see, that should be quite easy as a separate app built on top of Expenditure.

Is support for different currencies and splitting expenses relevant in that case? Otherwise I could drop a lot of code.

Is the idea that you enter all expenses for your kids?

Would you need the option to manually add an extra amount to the balance?

A standalone App would be nice, yes

Yes

Would you need the option to manually add an extra amount to the balance?

Yes, for doing unusual chores for example (help paint the walls)

I will see what I can do!

That would not get my little bugger through a week of fortnite  On the up side, we simply forget to give him pocket money sometimes (for a whole month!), so it evens out a bit.

If you need design support let me know (icon, logo)

They receive money from other relatives on birthdays, Christmas, etc., and save a lot, so I think it’s a good amount of money to manage monthly. Normal food items they want (ice cream, pizza, Chinese food, etc.) are paid for by us; only unusual and unnecessary items like candy and comics have to be paid for with their own money if they really want them.

We also tend to forget to give them pocket money, so the demand for a SailfishOS app is increasing.

Should that be tracked too? In other words: would it make sense to track not only expenses but also who gives money?

Calendar integration would be nice to have as well… But that is complicated and it would make the app incompatible with the official store.

Its not important for me. I did not give them the complete money at first day of the month. They save it and ask me if they need some and ask how much they have not spend/saved.

It should be as easy as possible in the lightweight mind of the jolla-apps.

Sounds exactly like me

Here are some suggestions for a pocket money app-name for SailfishOS with a maritime theme:

  1. Treasure Chest – A nod to hidden treasures in the sea.
  2. Money Stream – Like a river that flows with money.
  3. Catch of the Day Finances – A playful connection between fishing and money management.
  4. Captain’s Cash – The captain who keeps their finances in check.
  5. Sailor’s Savings – For saving on the high seas.
  6. Wave Currency – A connection between waves and money.
  7. Drop Coins – Small amounts that add up like drops of water.
  8. PocketmoneyFish – It’s a fun and memorable choice that fits well within the SailfishOS naming conventions

These names could fit well with the maritime theme of SailfishOS while also conveying the purpose of the app.

I was actually just going for “Pocket money” but I also like “Treasure Chest”, or “Captain’s Cash”. The latter would go well together with my diary app “Captain’s Log”.

It’s your decision, and I will accept it. I’m happy that someone picked up my idea for an app and is working on it because I can code in Lua with double-buffered/layered displays, but I’m not familiar with Qt and GUI-Kits.

Next is Captain’s Suite of apps then Captain’s Store or Captain’s Repos…
