On OS update contacts stored only on Android side are lost

REPRODUCIBILITY: hmm, did not reflash and update again to test…
OS VERSION: 5.1.0.11
HARDWARE: XA2+
UI LANGUAGE: English/German
REGRESSION: no idea, but do not think so. Could have been like this forever.

DESCRIPTION:

When updating the system, all contacts only stored on Android side are lost.

PRECONDITIONS:

Have the option “Copy contacts to Android” NOT ticked. (but I think it would be the same behaviour with that enabled).

Have an Android contacts app (e.g. Fossify) installed and created some contacts only on the Android side.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Create a contact only on Android side with an Android contacts app.
  2. update the entire OS.

EXPECTED RESULT:

All Android contacts are still available.

ACTUAL RESULT:

All Android contacts are gone.

MODIFICATIONS:

More or less none.

patchmanager installed, but none activated

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

I am happy that we now can divide SFOS and Android contacts. But -at least- there should be a big warning that, for technical reasons, all contacts on Android side will be deleted and be backupped aforehand.

Or, even better, a fix.

Didn’t know that was a thing. Possibly not an intentional feature even.

How so you mean that you’d make android-only contacts then?

And maybe I did not explain good enough.

We have back (since 5.0 I think( the tick box for sharing our private address book with the dark side.

Fine, but not for me. Asked a decade back to differentiate. So this option is OFF.

But on the other hand I do use WA and do not want to enable them access. So I downloaded and installed on Android side: Fossify Contacts and added those numbers from OpenContacts (which I used before, a complete Android stand-alone address book).

Those numbers are only available for WA. But they are not available on the SFOS side.

None of my SFOS contacts are seen on Android side.

Adding numbers to that Android address book app just adds them to the default Android address book storage.

YES. As explained above.

If that tick box is enabled, all entries from SFOS address book are simply copied to the Android storage and available to Android apps from that place.

For me this is THE solution for my requests back then
