Observations on new phone and Bluetooth not working for all usecases

Hi, got my Jolla phone (batch 3) in Germany this week and I am currently migrating all my apps from my ShiftPhone (MurenaOS) to Sailfish. The good news: I like the phone a lot, it seems faster than my ShiftPhone and I find similarities. I am already used to Aurora Store and have some experience in getting things running. So far the foilliwing things came up:

  1. Bluetooth connectivity for my Banking App, When transfaring my Push Tan App (Sparkasse in Germany) the old device and the new device want to connect to each other for migration. Unfortunatly they do not find each other. I went through all bluetooth settings, it did not help. Any suggestion welcome.
  2. When trying to connect a Android tracker (Trackcard ONE), which works with Google “Find my device”, the card does not show up (maybe also bluetooth related). Ialready switched on all NFC stuff and the Secure Bluetoot pairing, no success.
  3. During phone calls, I have used a bluetooth headset and a USB-C headset, but suddently the connection was muted for some reason. Is it possible that the USB-C gets disconnected if the phone goes into a locked state? Thats something the shiftphone does, but I cannot find a setting to disable this behaviour,

Nevertheless, I am really happy. Have a list fo european apps, and now my ecosystem is even more european. If there is interest in my app list, I will post it here.

Thanks.

Hi, I’m due to get my phone next week and would be interested to see your European app list. Thanks

Appsupport-brdge-bt does currently not support Bluetooth LE GATT (peripheral mode). The JP2026 must advertise itself as a peripherial device to the central device that your old phone is. That being said you must also shorten the name of your JP2026 as “Jolla Jolla Phone (2026) (Appsupport)” is longer than the allowed 32 chars (you will get a 400 error code from Sparkasse).

I run into the same issue but created a workaround for the missing GATT feature so yes it is possible and I migrated mine from Xperia 10 II.

Here you go:

My replacement list so far (as of 31.10.2026):

Note: I migrated first to a ShiftPhone 8.1 from iPhone. In October 2026 I migrated from ShiftPhone to Jolla Phone 2026. Reason is, that I wanted to be free of Android AND iOS. The list includes my original ShiftPhone App List and my new Jolla App list. Suggestions welcome.

Thank you for the Appsupport Brdge bt thing. Could you explain a little bit more in detail the steps to deplay this on my Jolla Phone. Do I have to connect the phone to my laptop or can I do this from Jolla phone terminal window. And: When I tried to do a terminal command it asked for the password: Is this the security code ? Or did I miss something?

Thank you so much for that.

Little update: I applied the privacy screen protector (the one from the Jolla Store) and I must say, that was the best installation process for a screen protector I ever had. Great system, without a problem. I recommend to remove the factory screen protector and apply the one from the store.

In addition: I noticed that APPLinks are not working. That is links (e.g. in mails) that want to pass through something to an android app. Like a login for my Mapy app. Obviously the sailfish OS webbrowser is called, but there is no handover to the corresponding android app. Any solution for that ?

interesting list, you really have thought this through!

There’s quite a bit of controversy around WSocial, not only concerning how they launched in Davos pretending to be the EU’s chosen social network. Elena Rossini has written about several issues with the people behind it and how it’s run: Public by Design: How W Social Makes Their Verified Users’ Personal Details Visible on the Open Web This is the latest in a series of articles.

There’s also the reporting by Follow The Money Less red tape, more pesticides? Bee careful what you ‘simplify’ - Follow the Money - Platform for investigative journalism and Yudi Sherman Europe Unveils Dystopian Social Media Platform at Davos

EuroSky may be a better option if you want to be on Bluesky. Or Mastodon, if you’re just after Twitter-style social media:

Thanks a lot. To be honest, Mastadon should be good enough. As I use Vivaldi anyway, i probably will delete WSocial.

I compiled this with help of Mistral and got it working. Unfortuantly the S-Push tan app stiull does not find the other phone :frowning: Maybe because of the newest Sailfish version. Don’t know. I will install this manually at a certain point in time, by asking for a new QR code by Sparkasse.

Hi and sorry for the late reply.

Sorry to hear that it didn’t work for you out.

Here is a small writeup what needs to be done:

Preconditions are that you have developer mode enabled on your JP2026 (so you set a password). If you have access to your phone via ssh or terminal app doesn’t matter. It’s easier however to connect from a PC with a ssh client.

  • the Jolla appsupport Bluetooth beta package installed (this will come with the original appsupport-bridge-bt),
  • Bluetooth turned on and
  • Appsupport container running

Now the part that temporarly replaces the original appsupport-bridge-bt with the workaround. You only need to download the run-temp.sh script and abbr binary artifact from Github that I today made downloadable as latest build release.

SSH into your device or use the terminal app.

# ssh into your device or run this from terminal app
ssh defaultuser@<your new device ip or name>

# download artifacts into home
cd ~
curl -L https://github.com/nekrondev/appsupport-bridge-bt-re/releases/download/latest/run-temp.sh -o run-temp.sh
chmod +x ./run-temp.sh

curl -L https://github.com/nekrondev/appsupport-bridge-bt-re/releases/download/latest/abbr -o abbr
chmod +x ./abbr

# then run the script as root (Appsupport is up and running, BT enabled)
devel-su
./run-temp.sh

# you can watch in the console the BT HCI messages exchanged between the mux and HIDL when there is communication going on

# now start Sparkasse Spush-TAN app on JP2026, registered as new device (it will show you the QR code that needs to be scanned from your other device)
# once the QR-code shows on JP2026 the BLE GATT peripherial is broadcasted. You can verify this on a second device with Nordics Bluetooth Tools that allows you to scan or simulate advertising (I tested it that way to make it working).

# then on your second phone Bluetooth should be enabled, too. The QR-code scanner should launch the SpushTAN app automatically which will search for the BLE peripherial device and eventually send data to it for the key-exchange and provisioning of the new device.

# CTRL-C to stop the script, the original appsupport-bridge-bt will be restarted and you are back to stock

So you will see something like this:

root@Xperia10II-DualSIM defaultuser]# ./run-temp.sh
[1/4] stopping Jolla bridge (appsupport-bridge-bt.service)
[2/4] launching reimpl bridge: /home/defaultuser/abbr (log: /tmp/abbr.log, debug=1)
[3/4] bouncing container BT so it attaches to the reimpl bridge
[4/4] READY — reimpl bridge running (pid 52472); AppSupport BT should be ON.
Test your scenario now (advertising, pushTAN, etc.).
Press Ctrl-C to stop and restore Jolla's bridge.
