Notes app available at Sailfish OS GitHub

Hi all,

We promised in yesterday’s newsletter that Notes app is the next app to be open sources. We’re happy to announce that Notes app is now available in the GitHub - sailfishos/jolla-notes: Notes application for Sailfish .

Please report issues to GitHub Issues (feel free use Forum Bugs as well) and label issues with notes. You can also filter by label.

When an issue link is added to a pull request (or a commit message), GitHub automatically adds the pull request / commit link to the issue. This is important from traceability point of view as occasionally you need to find additional details regarding the issue being it review comments, why and how change implemented like it is implemented, and so on. This is not always well documented in the commit message itself – or hard to elaborate briefly enough there. By doing like this one can see from the git history where to find more details. Similarly from the issue you can directly jump to the change itself. If there happens to be a Forum Bug regarding the issue, it would be good to link that as well to the pull request or to the commit message.

After a change is reviewed, Jolla Crew will take care of merging and integration. Happy hacking!

Worth noting that GitHub Issues provides a bug report template when creating a new issue.

Jolla Crew

Ah, now the app cover (minimized) can be edited backward in time when it still looked good. The “new” app cover really was my non-favorite…

Wonderful!

Now add Nextclout Accounts stuff to the Open Sourced things and we can integrate with NC or general WebDAV notes!

With a bit of history exploration, we can find this initial attempt at open sourcing back in July 2015, see Prepare for open sourcing. Contributes to JB#30968. · sailfishos/jolla-notes@e8a1592 · GitHub which was reverted later in November.

Hmmm, includes vault things, very intersting!

What are vaults exactly?

It’s the backend for Sailfish Backup.

I installed that patch via patch manager on SFOS 5, notes cover looks nice, but foilnotes now starts completely without cover, also after deactivating the patch and restarting. Can I fix that somehow?

That’s not really on topic here is it.

FWIW I have looked at the patch and it’s IMO impossible for it affecting Foil Notes in any way.

What is possible is that installing the patch rpm pulled in a Foil Notes update which broke things.
