Looks like Nokia is back into the smartphone game. The company has announced a smartphone designed and manufactured in Europe, targeting a security-focused market rather than the general consumer market. Unfortunately, I think, it does not run on SailfishOS.
Designed from the ground up for security and resilience, this tactical smartphone delivers encrypted broadband communications in contested environments..
While not all components may be produced in Europe, this is a positive step in the right direction for europe.
The operating system has not been specified, but based on the screenshots, one of the icons resembles Chrome, suggesting that it will likely run on Android rather than SailfishOS or MeeGo.
Aurora OS is for the russian government. An european OS - which CAN be used for european governments - is another thing. What exactly do you mean with “leftists” in this scenario?
Unfortunately, the only thing (smart)phone related Nokia is doing anymore is licensing their name. The “real” Nokia is unsexy (to us consumers) B2B stuff.
If Jolla and HMD would cooperate, this could become a Blackberry resurrection. A secure hardware with a secure OS. Stock-Android is spyware, so how could a phone running this OS ever be secure. @jolla go for a cooperation!
