STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Remove OKboard

  2. No keyboard appears anymore whenever one needs to input text.

  3. Rebooting several times doesn’t help.

EXPECTED RESULT: A keyboard to appear to enter text

ACTUAL RESULT: No keyboard appears - makes the phone useless

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

Hello.

I went through ssh in .config and backed up and deleted /okboard and edited /maliit/server.conf which was refering to ok board. I left that file & folder, but deleted its content.

Keyboard is back - problem solved. I can use my phone again!

So there were no other keyboards activated under Keyboards?
Normally this should be possible without a keyboard by selecting/enabling another keyboard layout there.

No, not if you mean from Settings > Text input.

My fix was to just reinstall OKBoard, I only deleted it to free up space for the update. @tvdjolla seems to have found the cause.

So tvdjolla could mark his entry as solution.

For anyone else getting caught out by this, you could also edit the mailit/server.conf file in the Terminal app as it has its own keyboard that remains unaffected by this

I’m not convinced that “i installed a unsupported 3rd-party app, uninstalled it, and my phone broke” is a legitimate bug report on the OS.

Well, I get it, but maliit could be made more resilient against invalid configuration.

At the time of reporting, I had no clue what was happening … I was not complaining, just reporting.
