DESCRIPTION:

Android apps dont have internet connection after connected to VPN (OpenVPN)

PRECONDITIONS:

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Connect VPN in sailfish setting
  2. Launch Android apps
  3. No internet connection found

EXPECTED RESULT:

I have the same problem in 4.1.0.24 on XA2 Plus.

Me as well with Xperia 10. Funny thing is that it becomes quite unpredictable, sometimes it works, sometimes not. Sometimes my Brave browser (like right now) even says “no internet connection” in the little top bar, but I can surf nevertheless (VPN shield shown, but actually not working for the browser in this particular situation).

I just tested OpenVPN on my XA2, 4.2.0.21. It works. Server runs on debian.

Edit; I tried three servers. Two work fine, one connects, sets the right route for the.tun.device but there.is no data flow. I tried the same vpn with a linux box and it works just fine. I’ll investigate that…

I switched lzo compression in the client from adaptive to off. Now all VPNs work. Maybe lzo does somehow… It can’t slow the connection down that much? I also set a MTU size of 1500.

Ok, maybe avoiding lzo compression does the job?
