Next gen Jolla Phone

That’s not the/my point.
Operators don’t care about Sony, so, if VoLTE doesn’t work, your bad…
And I have enought of “my bad”…

Please, if you notice, that the conversation is starting to get off topic, don’t encourage it any further!

Sony will continue selling phones in Europe.

What Sony Europe is doing is reducing or even removing some of their retail channels and instead focusing on the online channels.

An IR port should quite possibly be easier to implement than a second or third camera, imho.

Having just one better rear camera would leave space for the IR port. It would make things easier for the developers. It would also simplify and speed up the user experience. …and allow the phone to be a remote too.

Would you consider having LiFi (wireless via light) built in?

Why has an operator to care about Sony for a working VoLTE? Isn’t VoLTE standardized?
Or do you mean VoWIFI, that SFOS still lacks?

At some point we in Portugal got restrictions on which manufacturers/models were VoLTE enabled by the operators. There was a specific list. Later the operators said they enabled VoLTE on all models. Though it’s still not working on 10iii with SFOS.

I was thinking the problem is more Jolla needs to talk to operators and release tweaked configuration files.

  1. As of today, Sony does not sell smartphones in Portugal. You can buy a TV or a camera on their website Todos os produtos desta linha | Sony Portugal but you cannot buy a smartphone from Sony and have it shipped to Portugal. The way we in Portugal can buy a Sony phone right now is second hand websites from people who had previously purchased them in Germany/Finland/etc. and list them on ebay and similar. Some years ago they sold in Portugal, I got my previous XA2 from a physical shop (second hand, I think Sony had already halted retail sales in Portugal when I purchased it).

  2. The press release from Sony says the phones will be available in their digital channels in “in selected European countries” and that most likely means not Portugal, since not even today we can buy from Sony, and Amazon also does not have a local version for Portugal.

  3. Once Sony removes themselves from retail, only few Sony fans will buy from their brand, and that means the amount of second hand phones from Germany/… which end up on second hand websites, will tend to zero.

So we in Portugal will be unable to source both new and second hand Sony phones.

Jolla could implement this in hardware with the new phone.

The dimming of the display is usually done with pulse width modulation. Usually this is done with the red, green and blue channels linked. If the colour channels are controlled separately then the blue channel could be dimmed without the need to change the pixels of the display in software. A night vision mode could set both green and blue channels low for an almost completely red display.

There might not be an online presence for all European countries but you will still be able to buy online from other EU countries.

In similar fashion… I wanted to buy a Tiger Turbo Saver, a hand shower that uses very little water and is also very hard to find in Sweden. I was able to buy it online from a shop in the Netherlands.

I use Shure in-ears for a nearly a decade. Lately one earpiece broke and I could order a new earpiece!
Wired is better than over BT. BT uses energy. Besides, BT in- ears need to be charged. Yet a 3,5 jack has no real top priority to me since we can buy adapters.

I just keep wishing that the connector didn’t make the plug stick out, ready to damage the socket.

Not even the fretless bass guitar I designed for myself has the cable sticking out at 90 degrees.

The question is not how I can own a Sony phone, but if it will work. And chances are low, that it will have a working VoLTE (in Portugal).

Please make a high quality 5 in phone. You’ll be the only one and separate yourself from the competition. Btw… 8gb ram is still plenty, NFC please, not too thick, good camera software.

I may have the same problem here in the wilderness in the south of Lapland, Sweden. There’s only one way to know… Waiting.

*Fingers crossed*

Pictures are “stunning” while watch them on 6-7 inch screen with tons of processing, everything unnatural and so on.Even 20 years old Minolta with 6mpx is better by far.Give me your kidney phones, known as flagships are something completely different than what we gonna get and what they are lacking.

A similar situation is the digital signal processor that my friend has inside his home amplifier. It has awesome processing power and it is possible to profoundly change the sound going out to the 5.1 speaker setup.

My own system doesn’t impress anyone (but myself) with the tiny (match book size, really) class D stereo amp.

At one time, we tried for hours to get a natural sound from his gear and got pretty close, but when he listened to my humble system two days later he pointed at one of the ten litre speakers and declared that that was what he wanted. …and the tiny amp doesn’t even have tone controls, just a volume knob.

Having image processing and the raw CPU horsepower to do it is impressive. it’s that simple. And it is rare to request reality nowadays. …pretty much a dirty job, really, but someone’s gotta do it. The majority wants the AI cartoons, though.

An accurate and quick camera would be really nice.

it can work for the x10III (and it work for me on a focal Bathys)
you only nead to type in the Terminal:
pactl load-module module-udev-detect
before plug the USB DAC.

This can be achieved with single camera.More camera modules equals more problems to solve and results vary a lot.

I am unsure if the hardware needs diffentiation from the current mainstream smartphones: the differentiator is already there: the operating system.
I guess no one from the Android or iOS camp will dare to switch to SFOS just for the hardware (5" phone) discrimination factor.

I am hooked on the SFOS differentiator that I would even consider swallowing the (from personal perspective) small device pill (I prefer > 6.5"); I bet that noone will from Android or iOS enthusiasts will swallow the pill of a non-polished OS lacking the tons of app and proprietary services to get the desired 5" phone.

That’d be the phone I’d buy.
