Thanks for the news!

Yes and no.
Jolla could also innovate in sustainability field, just by using a most common/easy to find battery type.

Thanks for the update @Jolla.
I can say most I read is good.
And of course there have compromises to be made. On my side I can say, use the best components you get for the best price. But when a 6.5 display makes the phone cheaper to a dispaly with 6, I’m in. And please no double tap. That’s ancient by a security perspective

Thanks for the clarification.
Ok, it’s not a fully custom designed PCB.
Everybody will have to make compromises in any cases.

I’m using the XA2 3.5 jack every day, everywhere. Car, kitchen, workshop…
The need of an adapter everywhere is, for me, more cumbersome then a slightly bigger phone, but well, that’s life.

If the sacrifice is too high to include a jack into the phone, it would perhaps be fun to include some (not 2, but 5!) adapters in the package, just as a wink.

Just an idea… :–)

I’m using 3,5mm jack in car too. So if the new Jolla Phone will have only one USB-C and not 3,5mm jack, I hope that the USB-C will last fully functional for a long time. On my almost 7 years old Redmi 5 Plus (with SFOS), the microUSB connector is still usable for charging but when I connect USB flashdrive or USB memory card reader, the phone with it must be placed on the table without any movement because the connector is no longer as strong and the USB device tends to disconnect in the OS. But maybe USB-C is better than microUSB, I don’t have experience with it.

And there will be one limitation - not possible to charge phone and use 3,5mm jack at the same time without special adapter (which can be bought cheaply on Ali).

This. One reason some of us suggested a second USB port in the first Next Gen thread.

So keeping the headphone jack instead would be a much more cheaper option than a second USB-C port to my mind…

I trully have the feeling i am not going to like the result of this. :frowning:

Can you explain your sentiment? We are getting: small form factor, AMOLED, “feasible to have […] SD cards, fingerprint reader, Dual SIM, NFC, indication LED.” Basically everything we could reasonably ask for is considered, except for the 3.5 mm jack.

(CPU power is yet to be known.)

What we don’t get are things we also wouldn’t get on a Sony such as a user-replaceable battery or two USBs.

So we will even get the replaceable battery. Which makes me very happy, this feature enabled me to use the Jolla1 until recently.

‘Standard’ batteries are an option, but is searching the net the easiest way ? Jolla could earn a little bit more by selling suitable accessories: batteries, screen protector, case, adapter.

What are the advantages having a replaceable battery? In J1 we never managed to get spare batteries, the case was not water resistant, there were issues with contacts as i remember the phone could reboot? I guess fairphone for example has managed to resolve those issues at some additional cost and increased size of the device?
My 10iii despite the increased idling battery drain is almost 3 years old and i haven’t noticed much degradation. My XA2 now running android, is even older and battery degradation is not an issue either. Actually the main issue with my XA2 is s/w support
Personally, if i had the choice i would prefer instead of a replaceable battery, a waterproof and more compact case, or larger battery?

For me personally an AMOLED screen is an absolute must. Thats what makes the Xperias so georgeous to look at and use. I have had many non AMOLED phones and they look so grey and dull in comparison.

True. I prefer water resistant to replaceable battery

Therefore my suggestion for a standardized battery format available at usual electronics retailer.

Construction error, make it better next time.

Make gold contacts.

I had three or four batteries for my J1, the last one I bought just last year. And getting them was never an issue as the batteries for HTC Desire could be used. Together with the longterm support by Jolla and a replacement screen from @explit, this made longlasting usage possible. Of course with some problems and compromises.
And with good design and production, the replaceable battery and water resistance shouldn’t be totally incompatible, this has been done.

Replaceable and standardized batteries, replaceable screen, longevity etc that’s all fine with me, but why we have to reinvent the wheel? Fairphone has all of that and much more.

agreed.

water resistance way more important than replaceable battery’s

I don’t agree. I had dozen of phones which were not waterproof. None of them died from water damage. But I had some phones. Where I was not able to get a trustworthy battery anymore. So I had to give them up.
An easy replaceable battery can as well extend the usability. I prefer to take a spare battery with me over a powerbank. It’s lighter and I can immediately use my phone again, when it runs out of power, with no restrictions of an annoying cable between the phone and a power bank.
