Which official update from Jolla fixes the battery indicator?
An “official update by Jolla” cannot fix a bug in the blobs of Sony… You have to flash another blob.
No, I never sayed something like that.
My deadline has been reached. I created an ebay offer for my 10 V 8 GB RAM Dual SIM. A nice device, no problems, but in a drawer. So I can not migarte to SFOS. Now I will be only a viewer. I hope Jolla could offer something better next year.
since there is no actual date for any updates regarding this, can anyone pinpoint me an instruction how to most safely update / flash the new Sony blobs?
Lost overview a bit lately…
Jolla have good instructions on their website. Follow the link in the first post of this announcement here:
The only change is the best blobs are the Android_13_5.4_v4b_zambezi blobs. These have maximum functionality. All else in the instructions are correct.
What changed in functionality from the blobs in the instructions?
The battery indicator works and mobile data works much better with the v4 blobs.
Is updating the same process from the beginning, if the phone has already Sailfish OS with the v3 blob or is there a shortcut?
I am using an Xperia 10 V daily and it works much better than my former Xperia 10 III.
Just take care to use v4b blobs referenced above.
there were blobs which caused freezes. are these v4b blobs causing freezes?
I’m using v4b blobs and the only instances of freezing I’ve experienced are as a result of the dodgy OOM killer. Workaround is to just manually keep an eye on the amount of programs you have running at the same time.
Hi @slalomsk8er ,
Refer to this post from Jolla for instructions. You can just flash the binaries over the top of your existing setup. No loss of anything, all going well. I guess back up could be sensible.
Note down the list further there is a suggestion to add a restriction to the fastboot command if flashing fails. I had to do this, despite using USB2. I think it depends how new your fastboot is.
Finally, for me, as suggested above these binaries are rock solid. No freezing. Just better mobile data and a battery indicator that works.
V4 blobs occasionally cause the phone to completely freeze - probably around once a week in my case. A lengthy (up to 4 or five minutes) reboot is the only way to fix this.
I have been using the v4b blobs (and the Xperia 10 V as a daily driver) since april 2025. I’ve had no freezes at all.
Other than the freeze problem what is the functionality in general like? I have a 10v (android 13) here that I have been reluctant to flash because of all the bugs reported with this model, consequently I have stuck with the XA2 but really need an upgrade on the hardware front I’m thinking.
It all works except:
- The camera doesn’t work
- The torch (flash) doesn’t work
- The finger print scanner doesn’t work
- The battery indicator doesn’t work unless you use v4b blobs
- The 3.5mm jack doesn’t work
- The microphone can only be used for traditional audio phone calls, it doesn’t work for anything else (e.g. Whatsapp, Telegram, recording apps, etc)
- You get occasional freezes requiring a reboot
- Reboots can take up to 4 or 5 minutes
- Mobile data is unreliable unless you use v4b blobs
- Using Flightmode disables the SIM card requiring multiple reboots and settings contortions to get it back
- The screen brightness is very poor and unusable in bright sunlight when compared to Android on the 10v
That’s way too much for me, don’t get me wrong I love SFOS on my XA2 but it would be just too embarrasing if I had to explain as to why I was using the 10v in that state. Be better off keeping what I’ve got. I’ve had the 10v for a year now and TBH I’m tempted to put an android custom rom on it if that’s the only way I can use it with any reasonable functionality.
MS Exchange support also randomly does not work for some people
Well support for the Xperia 10iv and 10v was announced by Jolla in May 2024.
Release 4.6.0.15, from September 2024, was the first release made available for these phones, but on a trial basis only.
Although AppSupport was later added, these phones have been stuck in ‘trial mode’ ever since and for well over a year now, with no fixes for any of the above issues having been yet released.
Jolla have recently stated, this November, that they promised to deliver Sailfish on the iv and v and are committed to go as far as they reasonably can with these models (i.e. the emphasis has clearly changed from it being a full blown implementation), but also that some things (I think the fingerprint scanner being one) will now never be fixed by them. No timescale was given as to when anything further might be available.
So I wouldn’t hold your breath …
