Also; their more popular ones VPN, Mail, Drive and Calendar should not be things that need apps at all - the services should just work on established standards. Plus or minus some account integration.
It is really sad that people seem to not be able to separate the concepts of service and app nowadays.

I am not sure which of the apps refer. I hope that Proton’s SDK for drive would allow better integration for Linux platform like SailifishOS.

Exactly that. AND at least VPN and Mail work already on SailfishOS without the need of apps.
For ProtonMail, you can use ProtonMail Bridge to make it work with the native Sailfish E-Mail app (at least if you are a paying customer). You can either use this approach or download Bridge from OpenRepost/Storeman.
And for VPN, you can use Wireguard or OpenVPN with SailfishOS directly. You can get a config-file from their website

Yeah, I personally use the bridge from Storeman (that’s why I packaged it, after all) and it works well. I haven’t touched the bridge in months, after initial configuration it just works.

Maybe there is something i miss but the fact that proton is so hard to configure baffles me, especially since i have a paid windscribe subscription and it’s seriously easy to configure (everywhere, not only on sailfish)
I think you misunderstand something here. ProtonVPN is not hard to configure at all, it is just like any other Wireguard VPN on Sailfish.
The only thing that is “hard” to configure ist ProtonMail because for some reason you can only use IMAP/SMTP with their Bridge service. But thanks to @Rikudou_Sennin this is also easy now on SailfishOS - just download the bridge from OpenRepos. (P.S. This has nothing to do with Sailfish, also on the desktop (Windows, macOS, Linux) you need this Bridge-app)

The bridge is needed because they don’t use standard mail client protocols to communicate with their servers. Their whole thing encryption scheme means it has to be handled on your device. The bridge wraps that up for standard mail clients.

If it for VPN. Probably it wil better not to use a app but configure proton wireguard tunnel directly in sailfish/ Linux as your default always on network work/internet connection.

It’s not even possible to use the app because it runs in the Android container and is therefore not able to manipulate network connections / make VPN tunnels.
But Wireguard works perfectly fine with SailfishOS
