As soon as you see “device integrity” or generally anything regarding “integrity” you can abandon all hope of running it.

That’s not fixable on Jolla’s side, only the developer’s side.

This basically checks whether your phone is a genuine Google certified phone which AppSupport is not.

Note that literal Android phones will not pass this check if not certified by Google (e.g. custom ROMs or Huawei phones).

Edit: the only things you can do is downgrade the app or ask the developer to remove the check or to make it possible to optionally skip the check.

It’s not just Sailfish OS. Volkswagen started pulling this off a few days ago: Volkswagen vehicles become unusable with GrapheneOS due to API changes causing all third-party modules to stop working. - Germany

Nope. This is checked on Google’s servers, MicroG can’t help with that.

Oh wow, thats new to me, unbelievable…
What is the reason for this? Are there any EU laws demanding this? I suggest no, but why are they doing this?

Nope, no one mandates it but it’s very typical for corporate made apps. And even more typical for banking apps.

The official reason is usually security though it doesn’t really help much. The real reason often is just wanting to ban all unofficial devices.

Well, i do understand, that google tries to ban every unofficial device, but as a company providing just an app it would not be mine interest. Cant imagine, that app developmers at VW or similar companies can not decide whether such a test really improves security or just the position of Google…

Google does not mandate it at all, it actually adds work for the developer to implement it.

This is 100% on VolksWagen.

I’m quite sure Google is pushing those companies to do this in one way or another. It’s in Google’s interest. I was quite surprised that the Renault app has the same issue, and that has been the case at least since I’m driving my Renault Zoe since 2020.

There is no stupidity in this play, but acts on purpose. Google and co. actually do keep investing time and resources in order to develop sophisticated methods to bother the user in the name of “security”.

P.S. If I’m not the root, then it’s not my car.

VW responded with this now ;););)

Thank you for your message.

Please note that the use of the Volkswagen app is only supported on iOS devices and Android devices with supported operating system versions.

On devices on which alternative operating systems (so-called custom ROMs, e.g. GrapheneOS, LineageOS, or similar solutions) are installed, limitations or a lack of functionality of the Volkswagen app may occur. These systems are not part of the supported application environment of Volkswagen AG for the Volkswagen app, which is why we unfortunately cannot offer technical support in such cases.

The reason for this is that the Volkswagen app relies on security-relevant system components and certified Android standards to ensure reliable and secure use of our digital services.

Of course, we will be happy to assist you with any questions regarding the use of our official applications and services.

Imagine if some road networks locked people out because they have cars you can still open the hood on.

That’s basically the same thing they are doing. It is time tech isn’t treated as some best-effort hobby stuff, but the actual infrastructure it is and we got some damn rights.
