Yes, the device felt thin and well balanced compared to C2. Easy to reach all areas. And with the bent long edges of the 2.5D glass it will be even less intrusive on the hand’s reachability.
I’ve woken up multiple old Jolla fans who are comfortable with bigger phones and I’m sure that at least one of them has preordered it now. So I should be able to try it at least, but I’m quite sure that is just a bit too large to what I’m looking for.
There just is not a one solution (read: compromise) fit all, I’ll just hope and wait if Jolla gets second wind from this that they’ll become more of a reliable - even if niche - household name. Here’s hoping for Jolla 1/C sized phone in (near) future.
Come on people. Dimensions are what they are. You cant get around the reach issues with magic or whatever.
The green area represents the left-handed reach I have on the C2. So you can imagine the one for JP2 from my described experience only opposite extremes corners not both top and bottom unreachable without using two hands. No strange magic other than pretty good design. The balance can of course get different when all actual components are placed inside. Not sure this was proportionally modelled in the current prototype.
Left handed i assume right?
Other than reach itself stretching your thumbs every time you need to tap/drag someplace on the screen is not the best.
As i said no “clever” design can’t alter the dimensions of your hands. The phone is what it is for all the known reasons but lets not act like there are no issues with it (assuming you want one hand use of it).
I added left-handed as you identified as missing information. But are you really arguing experiences by serving assumptions? Any phone will certainly have its share of issues. We have already heard all design and component priority disussions giving us a community influenced mid-range phone. It will be what it is – a huge step forward. I am not sweet-talking this into perfection just supporting @cybette here in this thread when she explicitly asked about our experiences from holding the prototype too.
Apologies for not including the number in my comment. I corrected that.
Whether or not the image portrays the reality sufficiently, the practical difference is absolutely substantial. I have wielded both.
I seem to keep my Jolla C2 on my left hand and mainly operate it with two hands ( mostly with right). When trying to operate it only with left hand I can reach only left corner like in the picture attached.
EDIT: If I risk a little bit the balance, the area is bigger, but then risk is to drop the phone.
