I don’t know if this behavior is intended, but I dislike it: when I attach a storage device to my Jolla Phone it automatically createsxa folder structure (that I dont want). This structure is also different from the structure on the device itself. I first noticed thst when I mounted an empty SD card (internal) that definitely was empty before an thought maybe this is needed for some reason when it’s internal. But the same later also happend with USB sticks and other device. The really bad thing was today when I wanted to copy some eBooks on my eBook reader and SFOS immediately created those folders on the main storage of the other device.

So to my mind every storage device I mountbon the phine shouldn’t be altered without active user take.

I hate this behaviour too, but Sailfish OS also supports Android apps. These often expect specific directory structures on external storage, which is why these are created automatically. The system likely wants to ensure that photos, videos, music, and other file types are organized before the user saves them.
