Moto G2 appreciation post

This lil device, that I’ve been supporting and using for past 9 years (17 September 2015), has been released 10 years ago (well technically next month is exactly 10 years) and recently there has been resurgence in users (absolutely not because official phones suck) so I thought it would be nice to create a thread so that users can share their experience with using 10 years old phone, which to some people nowadays, might seem wild. “8GB storage? 1GB ram? What are you running on this dialer?! Throw it into garbage and buy new phone!”

Also perhaps some comments about my other ports might show up

Also I think, if I’m not mistaken, this is the longest supported sfos device… ever.

G2 is the first device after the OG phone 1 that works flawlessly with sfos.
I’ve switched my private phone to G2 a few months ago and this is the happiest I’ve ever been with sfos.
Yes it’s not the fastest device on the market, doesn’t have VoLTE and I didn’t even install app support since I’ve separated work/private phone, but it works perfectly fine with pure sfos and doesn’t have all the annoyances that come with 10 III.
Form factor is amazing at hand, aspect ratio is perfect (you can actually type properly), and even the ancient battery I have is getting me easily through the day.

All I want is a reliable and comfortable sfos device and that’s exactly what g2 is for me.

Other than that, (my new) X2 is even better on my hand (curved back and razor thin sides feel amazing), has a gorgeous screen and it’s even faster.

I don’t know if C2 will be good enough to make me want to switch to that in the future, but Sony devices are definitely over for me.

Ps. And the proper boot animation is cherry on the top, since I hate bootloader warnings and “powered by android”…!

I see it’s still quite easy to find these secondhand. Where is the documentation about flashing etc.?

http://verdanditeam.com/device/titan

It’s very easy, grab 3 zips (the logo zip is VERY important and CRUCIAL to correct operation [this is a joke])

unlock bootloader
wipe data
flash cyanogenmod
flash logo
flash sfos
be happy

oh and for the zips head to https://xdaforums.com/t/sailfish-os.3204245/ because i can’t be bothered updating website

When it first launched, it was a fantastic phone for its time. It was a piece of junk for me for 5-6 years until I found sailfishOS port for it… lmao never knew one device can get this much software support…easy to flash and great to use … SailfishOS brings a fresh, intuitive experience to the Moto G2.

SailfishOS remains a joy to use. Its enduring performance (device was literally unusable with Android) and unique software blend (sfOS ui/ux is soo much different and great) have kept it a reliable and fun device .

Cheers to the Moto G2 for standing the test of time and continuing to be a standout phone!

Hail motog2 and @mister_magister
