I wish and cry for more video codecs to the OS ecosystem. One way on my opinion could be by copying Raspberry Pi video licence distribution. Jolla could release video codecs, MPEG2 + VC1 at first to Jolla Shop as a paid licence. I find disappointing of Sailfish video codec support. Codec packs on Openrepos are far outdated & unmaintained, so no help from there.
