Microsoft Exchange account setup quirk

REPRODUCIBILITY: 100%
OS VERSION: 4.6.0.13
HARDWARE: Xperia 10 III
UI LANGUAGE: English
REGRESSION: Yes

DESCRIPTION:

I tried to set up an exchange account but it kept coming up with a problem with the credentials. An accidental work around was to go through the setup (the server I used was “s.outlook.com”), accepting the input settings and then when it says there is a “Problem with checking credentials” to minimise the settings and restart the phone; when you go back to the accounts you’ll see it’s set up but disabled. Enable the account, enter the password, change the settings to what you want, and then sync the account. It should then be working and showing up in the mail app.

I’m not sure why it works, but it was the only (accidental) solution to my problem.

PRECONDITIONS:

Wanting to set up a Microsoft Exchange account

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Set up Microsoft Exchange account
  2. Input account information and accept details
  3. Get met with “Problem with checking credentials”…

Met with “Problem with checking credentials” message.

MODIFICATIONS:

That is a (little-)known workaround for some account setup problems. You don’t have to reboot by the way, usually simply closing (not minimizing) and reopening the Settings app works.
