Maybe even something like a “Sailfish Store” that combines all 3 stores into one view?
I disagree. Jolla Store and Chum, why not. But Storeman must stay independent. Storeman has so many old packages that it would be dangerous for someone with no idea.
In my opinion, you don’t have the same perception of the “gravity” if you check an option to enable apps from Storeman (in case it’s merged with the Jolla Store), than having to:
- Enable 3rd party apps
- Install manually Storeman
Even Chum has some dangerous (I mean, that could break your phone) apps. So, I’m not sure. It would be better to merge Chum and Storeman. But it’s another question
Would it not make sense to still integrate all stores but then show proper warnings/explanations?
Better than just memory holing the store with the most usable apps just because some apps may be outdated.
I bet you there will be more users crying because their phone is broken.
Users will find OpenRepos eventually, so maybe it would be better to have it all well explained in one place.
What about maybe apps from the Jolla Store plus a curated list of apps from the other stores as a compromise?
The number of apps is small enough it would be easy to manually add them to the store as a community effort.
I totally agree with @pherjung .
There is no ‘‘checking’’ of Openrepos apps. Actually you can publish even the worst linux malware there. And even with good intentions publish an app that can break a phone. Chum’s apps are also not curated by Jolla.
Thats cool for people testing stuff. Not for average user, especially new one.
I personally only download from Jolla Store because the exact fact that apps are checked and curated there. Of course curation means that there are less apps, it just makes sense to me.
Jolla also talked about relaxing some of of the current restrictions that bar entry to Jolla Store and asked developpers what restrictions they wish to be lifted. That is the road to go i think. Just check with developpers of the specific restrictions that they wish to lift, and propose those for Jolla to thinker.
Maybe I’m just tired of explaining to new users that there are actually native apps for Signal, Telegram, SIP, etc. available on Sailfish.
The current situation is a bit of a mess for average Joe. But I like the idea of all three app stores.
Hopefully Jolla will do a revision on their restriction policies, and Chum and/or OpenRepos could be places where apps can have early releases and mature.
I currently use all three stores/repos for getting the apps I use on a daily basis and on top of that Aurora Store/F-droid for a few Android apps (Norwegian apps).
I totally agree. Who would have the time to keep up a curated infrastructure and support each one having questions from the self made community port to the tweaked and patched XA2 to the J2?
That’s what I’m trying to achieve with the Beginner’s guide app - it will include description of the three app stores, why they exist and how to install them
What about featuring good noted apps from Chum and OpenRepos on the Jolla Store?
If the app has various good comments, is open-source, has various users confirming that everything works correctly and an explanation what is missing to bring the app to the Jolla Store. Then that could be mentioned in the official Jolla Store?
I know, still a proper “meta app store” of sorts would be cool.
I asked here: Community meeting on 15th January 2026 - #3 by pherjung
We need to keep in mind that the easier is the solution, the best chances we have to include it.
I have seen so many proposals to revamp the app store die over the years that I am not expecting much from asking Jolla, but I would be happy to be proven wrong on this one.
Wtf is the problem to have 3 appstores? Jolla Store for newbies and common Joe and the two others for devs, power users and experimenters. In the Android world there are 5+ or somewhat and the G**lag for common Joe and the anxiously with warranty and certificate.
Should I ever mess up my phone with a broken app from Chum (in fact never happened), I shut up and reflash the phone.
Merging the 3 appstores is a huge work! Aren’t there more important things to do?
edit: on my GrapheneOS phone I have five appstores.
Wtf is the problem to have 3 appstores?
You’re a long user with experience, but it’s absolutely not clear for someone with no clue.
It’s the reason why I started this discussion. To convince people to keep at least 2 stores.
Please no. Who will be responsible for maintaing the apps, for the security and quality of the apps? Openrepos was fun but the ordinary user could not always rely on it. Apps in Jolla Store are adapted to Jolla’s rules. That seems more trustworthy to me. Of course open source would be best. Plus a few persons to overlook the app store.
You mean if all stores are merged together?
