The source for the new Mastodon account plugin is now publicly available on the Sailfish OS GitHub! If you have an account on a Mastodon server, you can install this and log in to see a feed of the latest posts in your Events View, just like Twitter used to do, and get notifications when things happen. You can tap posts to open them with a browser, or any app that can handle the links. You can also link, repost and share links by long-pressing a post, and you can create new posts by sharing images, videos and even text notes from different apps.
The current main branch is the source for a standalone version that can be built against a recent release of Sailfish OS. The plan is that pieces of it will be absorbed into the existing social modules to make event feeds easier for other implementations, and it can then can be included in the official software repository. It’d be especially nice if the nifty interaction menu could be used in other places, for example, or we might think about how the event feed might cope better with multiple parallel post feeds.
Hopefully by version 5.2 of Sailfish OS it’ll be available from the store or even bundled into default installations. For now, see the announcement thread to try it out now.
Please report issues to GitHub Issues (feel free to use Forum Bugs as well) and label issues with ‘mastodon’. You can also filter by label.
Kind regards,
Jolla Crew
