Man on a mission, an italian mission

Since when i started using Sailfish OS, back in the Jolla Phone 1 days, i wanted the system to be more popular, and i thought a crucial thing to be addressed was localization, especially for apps in the ecosystem

so i decided to be a man on a mission, the mission to make Sailfish as italian as possible, and i started translating apps, then 1 app became 2, 2 became 3, 3 became 4 and so on

I’m not a coder myself and i wanted a way to contribute back to the community, so i thought translations were a great way to give something back, and especially, to make the system more usable to people who didn’t know english (or know it poorly)

I can’t say i’m accepting requests but if you have something to propose me you are very welcomed to do so

As of now these are (roughly) the apps i translated, in alphabetical order

Let me thank @frankps which gave me the inspiration to start this post, localization is very important and it’s thanks to people like him if we can all enjoy using the system we love

I would also say, help us helping you, if you are not a coder but know the language and have some free time, whatever language you speak, join on board and translate, you will help even more people enjoy Sailfish OS

Un grazie anche a quelli che hanno tradotto le applicazioni in italiano prima che potessi metterci mano io, consentendomi così di fare altro

Ciao

Hi my friend, first of all I really liked your opening title. The way you did it felt like it’s finally time to raise our sails and set out on the journey. As a translator, I’d also like to step up and do my part at this time. I know very little coding, but I can do it — I believe in myself. And your final words were truly very valuable as well. Yesterday I went a bit into Jolla’s past, and there too there was a beautiful saying: the community saved us =)

Hard and valuable work you have done. If you have time my app Fast Chess is not yet having Italian translation. I accept translations in Transifex, Github pull requests or by email attachment

Thank you for kind words!

My goal is simple: Make good, native apps available in native language for all the new users coming to our platform.

It is as simple as that…

Beautiful initiative! For Whisperfish, the last translation contribution was 2 years, 10 months ago. We could use some refreshing, since the current Italian translation is at 74% complete. 646 words would want some attention.

Up to you to decide whether to take it up, of course. If you decide to do that: gracie mille! I’ll let you know next time I’m in Italy, and I’ll buy you a beer vino rosso

Just yesterday i had a look at whisperfish github, but i saw an italian ts file so i thought it was already done

Anyway i will happily make it my next project for when i will finish the other three that are in line

Just a quick reminder that i don’t use signal, so the translation may be not 100% accurate as i’m not seeing in ui what i’m translating

In my ts file there might also be some Italian looking translations I tried to do with Googl 10 years ago when I did not understand my abilities. Feel free to tear them down.

Currently understanding well better what native translation can do.

If you have questions about context, I’ll be very happy to answer them, and to clarify the translation descriptions! Thanks for considering Whisperfish in the list. And if you want to start using Signal, I’ll be happy to be your first contact!

Thank you for the fast translation. It is already integrated to my local code and will be included to the next version 0.9.9.
