Mail client alternative

As I was missing some features in the mail client (unified inbox, consistent message view, threading support, PGP support, hiding images unless you request them to be downloaded, removing tracking arguments from links, etc), so I created a mail client of my own with the help of Claude.

It works for me now, but I’m very curious what features you expect from a mail-client. You can install it as a separate client next to the existing Sailfish mail-client, or install it as drop-in replacement. Under the hood it uses the existing accounts, so no need to set-up an extra mail client.

I don’t have access to chum yet, so I can’t upload it there, but you can download from GitHub for now: GitHub - readefries/sfos-posthoorn: An email client for Sailfish OS · GitHub

Something is wrong.

PackageKit error 13: the to be installed posthoorn-default-mail-1.2.0-1.aarch64 conflicts with 'jolla-email' provided by the installed jolla-email-1.1.58-1.22.2.jolla.aarch64

If you want to install it as a replacement as the default mail app, you must first remove it.

devel-su pkcon remove jolla-email
devel-su pkcon install posthoorn-default-mail

More details are here: GitHub - readefries/sfos-posthoorn: An email client for Sailfish OS · GitHub

I don’t want to install it as a replacement of default mail app. I want to install it as “install it as a separate client next to the existing Sailfish mail-client”.
edit: I see there are different packages at github. Looks like it is not compatible with Harpoon

Then you need the rpm without default in it

See: GitHub - readefries/sfos-posthoorn: An email client for Sailfish OS · GitHub

TL;DR: grab the rpms for your architecture and install them with devel-su pkcon install

Yes. The regular expression filter for Harpoon is:

^((?!default).)*$

So. The first I would like to have separate from system accounts an email account management. For a separate client.
The second one I see at the moment it is multiple messages markings and deleting.

You can already select and delete multiple messages at the same time. Just long press and see the options you have.

Currently, I mostly rely on all connectivity there is already coming from Sailfish for accounts and getting e-mail. Accept for using PGP, as there’s a bug that prevents me from validating PGP signatures when using the build-in libraries. So adding separate accounting is not trivial to add taking into account the different types of protocols, authentication and the behaviour of certain providers

I did test it but I missed the bin icon :).

Regarding the accounts I know that it is not trivial but that it is the most crucial point for alternative client. I am waiting for someone that port Thunderbird to SFOS.

Ha, thanks for sharing. I did indeed not find that one
