Lastu Back Covers

Remember them from the Jolla 1 days?
I remember getting some veneer and making my own.
I sent a suggestion to Lastu on their Facebook page and a few Jolla users actually liked the suggestion.
Maybe email them and see if they’re willing to make some for the new Jolla.

Just emailed them, for whatever it’s worth.

Yikes! I’ve just received this reply from lastu. I’m already in too deep! Lol!

Thanks for reaching out with your suggestion for a Jolla 2 bumper cover! That’s really helpful feedback.

I’ve checked our current information, and I don’t have any details about future product releases or a way to directly submit new product suggestions at the moment.

To make sure your idea gets to the right people, I’m going to connect you with one of our team members. They’ll be in touch shortly to help out further.

I assume I can only redirect them to Jolla’s contact details at https://jolla.com/#Contact if they do reach out to me.

Hmm… The Other Half specs are public. They shouldn’t need additional input from Jolla.

Well, maybe they are a bit cautious. Back in the days of the tablet, I ordered a Lastu cover alongside the tablet. Beautiful design with wood, and I prepaid for it of course.
After the tablet project went wrong, I contacted Lastu to see about the prepayment, any possibilities, etc. I got the impression they lost some money on the project.

I cannot find the actual specs there. They say they will opensource them, and I believe them, but have they done it yet? Maybe @rodoherty jumped the gun a little there, but otoh it can’t hurt to get in touch early.

Honestly, by pinging Lastu an email, I thought I was just adding my little contribution of support for a 3rd party bumper cover. I wasn’t expecting any kind of reply.

In one of the news bulletins there was something about publishing some TOH specification end of March, but I am not aware of any of that having happened. I would assume they have currently other, more urgent things to do.

TOH specs are not sufficient to create a phone case.

In his update to his First Impressions post, Josh Strobl points out that

There were some design changes made to the interior (TOH2 side) to hopefully give any prospective TOH2 hardware designers in the community some more flexibility. I’ll let Jolla dive into that since you never know if it’ll evolve further

Elsewhere in the post he says the fit of the OH feels better, whilst also noting other changes to that side, including the battery cover plate, so that suggests the final form wasn’t ready in March.

I don’t believe in people talking about creating phone covers anyway.

Hmm, I think you’re right. Or, to be more specific, TOH is not a phone case and the specs might even miss spme phone dimensions.

I shared the damage of the tablet drama with Jolla but still fancied a Jolla tablet (and still do). Years later someone sold his tablet with Lastu case to me. Unfortunately the tablet was useless (no power, no battery) but the Lastu case still does its job on my old ipad mini!
