Kauppalehti article about Jolla (Finnish only)

And paywalled… Would have loved reading it!

Is it paywalled? At least I had no issues accessing it. Maybe trying opening it in a private window or something?

That was a good news indeed.

That was strange. I was able to read the whole article after first click. But I think that was as expected. Usually you can read one or two article and then the rest, you should pay for them.

Asks for 2.90€/kk - and text fades out. I have not read articles from this newspaper before.

I can kind of read it, although Brave’s automatic translation from Finnish to German is extremely funny :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

It was published for free at first, but now it’s behind a paywall. Luckily enough, the first version of that website got saved:

EDIT: Some notes about the future of Jolla for those who don’t understand Finnish:

  • Major announcement with a phone manufacturer brand coming in June. Many other negotations are still going.
  • Sami is estimating around 10 million euros of revenue this year, with positive net profit.
  • Jolla is going to publish a paid cloud service.

I wonder how Kauppalehti acts when it comes for finnish customers or foreign customers.

Now it says (to me finnish customer) that create an account, then you can read it for free.

I got access to it.

Gemini translates it well it seems. Will be a good read!

Didn’t get info about negotiations with hardware vendors - Gemini skipped that

Thank you for the bullet points!
All of them are actually pretty exciting.

I’m pretty sure my translation said it would be a optional service. Just to have that mentioned and no one has to worry to be forced into a subscription .

I would guess some kind of Nextcloud or alike for Contacts/Calendar/Picture-Storage or something like that. Love the Idea.

To be honest I hoped and mentioned how great it would be multiple times thought the years, but I never expected to see them move forward with in-house cloud services.
Jolla did a 180 degree turn from doing one wrong move after the other to one big thing after the other.

Last time I was this excited with Jolla it was 2013

I would assume this is some way to save their AI adventure, the small/local models are nowhere near usable as the ai hypers predicted, so giving out ‘free’ access to buyers into their ai saves some face and makes it kinda usable, and they can recoup from normal sfos users that just want standard backup service free from US, we’ll see, the phone manufacturer brand cooperation announcement seems more interesting, is it tiny like volla/fairphone or something bigger

Actually it would be a great idea to repurpose all the technologies they worked on into something that users actually need and they’re used to.

Regarding the phone brand, whatever it is i think it’s still a step in the right direction.
I would really like to be able to tell someone that they can buy X phone or chose between a few.
I think it will be much easier to convince/intrigue someone compared to asking them to crowd fund a project, come back to pay, and then wait half a year just to try sfos.

The article is gone from archive as well now

Really interesting article! Quite stunning push for revenue as new firm had only a little bit over 1m in 2024 and now they are pushing for 10m :star_struck: Definitely look that Jolla is finally on correct track here, congratulations for all sailors!

I can access and read it here in germany (translated with firefox-plugin). It seems the first new visit for an article is free.

Interesting detail in the video: Weather widget is (will be) back!
