[JP2026] System Call Recording doesn't work while AAS is enabled

REPRODUCIBILITY: 100%
OS VERSION: SFOS 5.2.0.17
HARDWARE: Jolla Phone 2026
UI LANGUAGE: US EN
REGRESSION: don’t know

DESCRIPTION:

I recently activated automatic call recording in the system’s phone app.
The recording starts when a call is outgoing or incoming, after the call ends a notification shows up informing about the recording.
The list of recordings shows the correct date and the files are the right length in minutes and seconds, however nothing can be heard in them, not even at max volume and putting the speaker inside my ear.
When a call is incoming the vibration and ringtone can be heard at the start of the recording, once they stop (because I pick up the call) the playback plays complete silence.
This makes it seem like recording is fine as long as the phone rings, but mic and speaker get cut off as soon as I answer, of course I’m no expert so this is just a most likely wrong impression.

Audio recording via the audio recorder app works, audio recording via the camera app works, mic and speakers during calls work.

Tried restarting the phone and trying again to no avail.

PRECONDITIONS:

Enable automatic call recording in the system app “phone”.
Enable android app support.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE:

  1. Receive (or place) a call - receiving is better because you can hear the ringtone at the start of recording
  2. Make some noise
  3. End the call
  4. Reach the list of recorded calls (either via the notification or the phone app settings)
  5. Start playback of a call

EXPECTED RESULT:

Ability to hear the call

ACTUAL RESULT:

The call cannot be heard, only ringtone and vibration can be heard when receiving calls

MODIFICATIONS:

FUTO Keyboard
Patch for switching to last used app by long edge drag
Chum, storeman
Microg, f-droid, aurora store

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

I opened this new topic because the ones I found were about hearing only one side or volume too low (I don’t hear anything after the ringtone)

In my case it works well on J2 (5.2.0.17). The volume is a bit louder from my own voice and a bit quite on the caller side. However, I have only 6 recorded calls so far and the caller loudness varied a lot.

Thanks for your info!
I received another call today and the ringtone recording was much louder, I can hear environmental sounds and voices through the ringtone.
Unfortunately all audio stops as soon as I answer the phone.

I only got 4 recordings for now, all silent :smiling_face_with_tear:

Wait a minute, I just checked my call recordings and they’re the same: they record the ringtone being played back over the speaker, and the vibrations, but they don’t record the voices. But there should not be any recording going on before you pick up the phone!

This function works correctly on other devices (no recording before picking up the phone, and clear voices), so this is definitely a device specific bug. Hopefully it can be fixed soon.

Could it be related to if AAS is turned on or not? For me it has worked well, and I hardly ever leave AAS on for longer periods. Just a thought.

Yep, you’re right!
Quickly turned off AAS while receiving a call and I could hear the recording after.
My voice is clear but the other side is very low volume and/or muddled at times, but better than nothing.

I should probably edit the post’s title.
